GitHub’s Field Services team is looking for an experienced DevOps, Productivity, and Enterprise Compliance product specialist who wants to work in partnership with senior leaders at our most strategic customers, focused on accelerating and growing their success with GitHub Enterprise. Field Product Leads are a key part of our Revenue organization, recognized as subject matter experts in their product area, as well as by their ability to synthesize customer experience to provide an industry lens in their interactions, both internal and external. They support a variety of diverse internal teams, including sales professionals, product management, engineering, GRC and marketing in efforts that ensure that GitHub, and our customers, are successful and productive, together. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in helping Enterprises understand and succeed with Devops & Application development, engineering efficiency, and Enterprise architecture. They have strong communications skills, and the ability to articulate value and vision to developers and executives alike.

The Job - what you’ll be doing

  • Lead GitHub’s technical Enterprise products customer sales strategy across the global pre-sales organization
  • Meet with enterprise customers and prospects to understand their business and technical needs, and share GitHub’s enterprise vision and strategy. Advise leaders in product and engineering of current and future enterprise customer needs, concerns, and opportunities.
  • Aggregate and prioritize identified needs based on potential business impact, appropriateness, and ability to deliver
  • Work closely with our marketing, product, engineering, and partner teams to define enterprise strategies for products in development.
  • Develop custom solutions to solve internal and external automation needs.
  • Work closely with VP Field Services on special and high impact projects
  • Other duties as assigned


The GitHub Field Services organization is looking for an experienced DevOps and Enterprise Architecture specialist who has an expertise and passion to exceed our customers’ expectations and who will go the extra mile with a strong work ethic and collaboration. They also have:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of DevOps and Application Engineering experience
  • 3+ years of Software development, Engineering, Software Architecture, and/or Technical Support experience
  • Demonstrable deep knowledge in two or more of these areas: Cloud computing, Continuous Integration, Application Development, Workflow automation, Enterprise Architecture.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, demonstrated with experience in technical sales, architecture/solutions engineering, technical consulting, system integration or project management
  • The ability to partner with and effectively communicate technical concepts to sales, legal, technical and executive staff.
  • Deep knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle and related tools
  • Broad knowledge of IT concepts, including encryption, networking, operating systems, databases, middleware, and applications ideally in a cloud environment
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment (global team + nature of software development)
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Team-oriented and possess strong collaboration skills
  • Self-directed and resourceful; Experience working on a remote team in an asynchronous workflow across time zones
  • Proven commitment to quality and success

Preferred Qualifications: (Not required)

  • Exposure/Experience with GitHub Enterprise.
  • Experience with product management or technical selling for Development tooling.
  • Experience running Developer tooling at scale
  • Participation or leadership in industry groups, trade associations

Customer interaction: Adept at working with large and strategic corporations with minimal oversight. Security and Business skills.

  • Understand meeting, sales dynamics

  • Ability to present security posture to CISOs but also hold your own in technical discussions with Engineering leads.

  • Flexibility and skill to adapt conversations or messaging on the fly.

  • Ability to craft custom messaging for specific customer use cases

  • Ability to research a customer or industry to better understand their unique needs

Internal Collaboration:

Engage in cross functional collaboration within GitHub, including Sales, Legal, Security, Professional Services, Technical Product Management, Product Marketing, Engineering, and Marketing. Work with these teams to understand and convey deep customer needs, product roadmap and direction, as well as low level product and technical capabilities.

  • Be an internal expert on customer and industry trends

  • Advocating for customer interests within GitHub by communicating customer feedback and perspectives to appropriate teams to be considered in product strategy

  • Jointly create collateral to respond to customer and leadership concerns

  • Mentor, pair, and delegate work to encourage the professional and technical growth of those around you

  • Prioritize scaling your knowledge and expertise to the rest of the Field Services organization

External Collaboration:

Build a network of leaders, tastemakers/influencers, and customers to inform your own knowledge of the product and corporate landscape as well as help position GitHub as an integral part of the security space. Become a trusted partner with leadership at GitHub’s strategic customers, allowing GitHub to provide an enhanced experience, as well as be better able to position GitHub for future sales opportunities. Be able to teach the organizations about their industries and offer unique insights to encourage them to think differently about their business and discover the true value of working with GitHub. 

  • Building relationships with key decision makers, visiting customers on-site, and serving as a trusted advisor and point of contact
  • Learn about customers' successes and challenges, sharing customer feedback within GitHub
  • Bring insights to your efforts that cross territories, regions, and industries

  • Participate in working groups, panels, and industry forums to share your insight

Security Subject Matter, as well as Industry Expertise:

Possesses deep technical knowledge of GitHub products, features, and capabilities to be able to position them properly to customers, as well as provide timely answers to their technical questions. This could involve familiarity with the underlying codebase, user stories, or competitive landscape and market segment. You will need to understand how we enable customers to be successful with our products and services to help them be leaders in their industry. 

  • Understanding where GitHub fits in a complex ecosystem of tools and be a trusted advisor to customers in regards to the Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Documenting technical considerations, collecting existing articles, and contributing to internal knowledge as a subject matter expert for other teams in GitHub, customers, and partners

  • Represent GitHub in industry and technology-focused opportunities

Business Development:

Be a partner to the field sales team. Help them understand and improve the relationship with their customers. customer happiness, and plans to assess market opportunity for GitHub Products and Services and aligning resources to meet business goals

  • Provide limited, impactful support to High Potential and Strategic sales opportunities as agreed upon by regional leadership

  • Identifying customer business requirements and matching them to product features

  • Building joint customer strategies with enterprise sales and field services to encourage product adoption

  • Support projects and initiatives that provide sales acceleration opportunities

Represent GitHub:

You will be a thought leader for your market and represent GitHub at customer and partner meetings as well as small and large events. You will be a key resource supporting GitHub to hit aggressive sales targets.
