CodeQL is one such tool: our semantic code analysis engine that lets you query code as though it were data. CodeQL combines the latest research in compiler optimization with insights in database implementation. It understands the complex data structures inherent in code, and makes analysis available to researchers using a declarative, object-oriented query language. You can write a query to find all variants of a vulnerability, eradicating it forever. Then share your query to help others do the same.

The opportunity:

Come join our engineering team and help build CodeQL analysis of one or more programming languages. You’ll lead a team of code analysis and programming language experts working to redefine what’s possible through static analysis and variant analysis. As a manager and leader, you will work closely with a distributed and diverse team of engineers, designers and product managers, always keeping quality and the experience of our users top-of-mind. You’ll coach and develop the team, providing regular feedback, and help each individual to learn, grow and develop their career. You’ll help shape an environment of psychological safety, and an environment where experimentation, continuous learning and growth are highly valued. You’ll influence and provide feedback on the organizational culture and processes, always looking for opportunities to improve in a continuous pursuit for excellence. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of experience leading software engineering teams.
  • 6+ years of experience designing, developing, and shipping high quality software
  • a passion for fostering good engineering practices, tools, and processes
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, together with previous experience working on a distributed and remote environment across multiple timezones
  • highly developed organizational, people, and process skills
  • a track record of providing feedback, teaching/mentoring others, and learning new skills
  • the ability to create a shared understanding of decision making, direction, priorities, and progress between the team, the org, and the broader company

Additionally, any of the following experiences would be considered a plus: 

  • Good understanding of programming language design and implementation, modern compilers, and parsers.
  • Exposure to or advocacy of static or dynamic analysis, or security best practices.
  • Engagement with or advocacy for open source.
  • Track record of building developer tools or security solutions.

The majority of our team members live across Europe, the US, and Canada, and while we do have some offices, all our meetings are location-agnostic and happen online.
