As a Product Security Engineer/Security Partner at GitHub, you will help lead building out a number of programs aimed at building strong relationships with engineering. These programs will empower engineers to design and build secure code, services, and infrastructure that form the foundation of the world's software supply chain. In short, you will meet product engineers where they are and provide them with knowledge and support to secure GitHub and our users. To be a little more specific:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identify, train, and partner with champions for security in engineering and product teams
  • Support security champions by helping them assess risk, learn to identify architectural gaps, and similar activities
  • Create secure engineering documentation, guidance, and similar collateral
  • Develop and run security brown-bags, run internal CTF's, and similar security awareness campaigns
  • Develop training related to security architecture, threat modeling, and secure coding
  • Mentor other engineers on the team
  • Help to identify the most important strategic investments to focus on as a team
  • Collaborate with other teams within security to identify new tools and processes to integrate into GitHub’s Security software development lifecycle
  • Generally be an advocate for secure software development at GitHub

The minimum qualifications are:

  • Familiarity with software security architecture
  • Familiarity with web and mobile security vulnerabilities
  • Familiarity with secure coding principles
  • Experience developing software on a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort collaborating with other security teams and product engineers in an asynchronous environment
  • Comfort presenting/training others on security topics
  • Comfort representing security concerns to engineers and developers
  • 3+ years of professional experience in developing software
  • Practical software development skills using Ruby, Node or Go
  • Demonstrated understanding of security in the development lifecycle

Bonus points if you have:

  • Familiarity with vulnerabilities specific to Ruby on Rails, Go, or JavaScript
  • Experience in developing and/or running a 'security champions' program
  • Experience in delivering virtual or in-person security training
  • Experience using Git and GitHub
