GitHub is seeking a developer advocate to join its Security Lab. You will engage with the community of security researchers and open source developers, to encourage them to get the most out of the GitHub Security Lab resources, and contribute to our mission of securing open source software. You will help us grow our community from a small enthusiastic group to everybody who cares about software security.
The mission of the GitHub Security Lab is to inspire and enable the community to secure the open source software we depend on. We create a home for security researchers where they can collaborate and share, with the common goal of making security easy for developers.
Working as part of an established team, you will
- Produce high quality technical content (blog posts, tutorials, training, videos, puzzles, talks...).
- Work on maximizing the reach and the impact of this content, through social media campaigns, through our public forums, or through special events.
- Contribute to nurture the community, ensuring that the journey and the experience of the members is always fun, interesting, and rich in new learnings.
As an advocate, you will also contribute to close the feedback loop of the community members, feeding both the Security Lab and the GitHub product team.
You will also contribute to the design of the Security Lab ecosystem (blog, forum, community ...) to optimize our public communication channels.
- Create tutorials, training material, how-tos, puzzles, videos … on how to use the Security Lab resources and tools
- Write and give talks at security or developer conferences
- Represent the GitHub Security Lab at conferences that we sponsor
- Nurture the community, with engaging activities and content
- Organize community events (for example the GitHub Security meetup)
- Manage the social media account (Twitter)
- Manage the public forums
- Improve the community member experience, by measuring retention and activity along the journey, and propose actions or improvements to the strategy
- Make sure that the feedback loop is effective, and that relevant feedback actually gets up to the product team
- Engage with new potential community members (open source maintainers, enterprise developers, organisations ...) and evangelize the Security Lab’s mission.
- Excellent communication skills, as they will be one of the public faces of the GitHub Security Lab
- Appetite for reaching out to people, for teaching and explaining, and for making highly technical content accessible and fun
- 2-3 years experience in a role that implied technical writing (blog posts, tutorials), public speaking, and community management
- A previous experience in the Security domain, knowledge of secure code practices
- Experience of open source development practices
- Collaboration with open source communities
- Teaching experience
- Knowledge of CodeQL
