GitHub is looking for a Senior Director of Internal Communications to join the team and lead employee communications programs supporting our company objectives. This would be an opportunity to manage an internal communications function and team, working closely with the VP of Communications and the entire comms team, as well as others throughout the organization.
Successful candidates will have extensive experience in working with executive teams to develop proactive internal communications programs, writing and executing employee communications plans, developing creative and innovative internal programs and content, and building and fostering relationships across business functions and geographic locations. Candidates should be excellent writers, strategic and creative thinkers, and skilled at managing relationships with leadership and internal clients.
This role is based in San Francisco with periodic travel opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and execute global internal communication strategies and plans that support GitHub's vision and goals
- Lead all internal components of company-wide announcements
- Drive executive communications programs internally to best share company strategy and direction
- Provide internal comms counsel to the executive team and senior leaders
- Be an executive comms business partner to executive team members
- Build and drive content for internal events including all-hands meetings
- Develop programs that are valuable to remote Hubbers and remote communication needs
- Oversee a new intranet solution and build a related editorial program
- Be a resource for executives and team leaders when rolling out new policies and programs and other internal announcements
- Monitor employee feedback and topics of discussion to identify communication opportunities
- Measure programs and make informed recommendations on programs and changes
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in technology communications (internal communications and/ or PR), with at least 3 years specifically focused on internal communications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
- Collaborative and team oriented
- Experience with executive communications
- Ability to drive consensus across diverse set of stakeholders, including senior leadership
- Ability to support change management in complex, fast changing organizations
- Excellent project management skills and analytical ability
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience running internal communications in a growing, fast paced, and/or start-up environment
- Experience with remote communications
- Experience working in an engineering/developer-centric culture
- Understanding of enterprise software landscape
- Understanding of HR and how to support employee-facing programs
- Experience using GitHub
