GitHub is looking for a hands-on engineering manager to lead a team of infrastructure software engineers. This team develops and operates the runtime platform that enables our GitHub teammates to create, deploy, scale, debug, and run applications on Kubernetes. We pride ourselves on a strong internal and external customer focus and data-informed experimentation to improve security, resilience, reliability, performance and usability. We're applying approaches and processes from product development to state of the art infrastructure to make it not just easy but delightful for internal developers to do the right thing running their apps. If you're thrilled by the idea of infrastructure that treats UX as a first-class concern, you're the leader we're looking for!

In this role, you will join our community of people managers and hone your ability to develop the individuals on your team. You will be their advocate when they are not in the room, their organizational sponsor, and take an active role in their career growth. We look for honesty, humility, empathy, and a growth mindset in all of our people managers.
This team and its parent Development Lifecycle organization are highly distributed and you will thrive in an environment of remote work and asynchronous communication. Our team members span a variety of timezones, genders, races, cultures, disability statuses, sexual orientations, family responsibilities, experience levels, professional backgrounds, personality types, and more. You're expected to have strong written communication skills and to excel in working relationships with people different than you.
