The Role

Ghost is looking for a multidisciplinary product designer to join our team in Mountain View, CA. In this role, you will work as a core team member delivering beautiful, intuitive, and safe experiences for our core product: a self-driving kit. Your work will include comprehensive software-driven experiences, including interfaces and Hardware UX, audio and haptic feedback, on top of broader capabilities and experiences within the Ghost platform.

Driving and executing against the roadmap and company strategy, you’ll work closely with colleagues in design, user research, product management, software development and hardware design to create simple and engaging experiences from concept to final product launch and iterative experience improvements released over time.

What you will do: 

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including design, product management, development, testing, hardware design, and research to design, test, refine, and document simple and compelling user experiences, ensuring alignment with the overall Ghost strategy and product or feature requirements 
  • Develop a keen technical understanding of the Ghost system and identify opportunities to deliver the best experience possible  
  • Provide detailed but concise design specifications for new product experiences and iterative improvements to Ghost products 
  • Leverage and refine Ghost’s design strategy, define interaction flows and execute the design direction of our core product 


  • Extensive history working collaboratively with engineers in fast-paced environments on mission-critical products and experience 
  • Deep experience applying UX prototyping tools to deliver on core interface evaluations 
  • Appetite for finding new ways to prototype software and hardware experiences to get at the crux of key problems, mitigate risk, and identify the best experience possible early within a program 
  • Experience with the integration and ideally creation of 3D visuals and motion design is preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, such as user experience design, HCI, and interaction design 
  • 10+ years of experience as a designer sitting at the intersection of hardware and software
  • Background designing software for embedded operating systems or experience with hardware UX greatly appreciated
  • A current portfolio available for viewing demonstrating the detailed work needed to ship products
