What you'll do:
As a Kubernetes Architect you will be responsible for designing the most secure, reliable, scalable and highly available cloud application environments for Geotab. You will be leading the integration of new services into the Kubernetes environment ensuring best practices are followed. You will need to collaborate with product owners, developers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements for new services and work closely with development teams to ensure applications are containerized and configured correctly.
How you'll make an impact
- Develop proof-of-concept projects to validate new technologies and approaches.
- Create and Maintain Helm Charts: Develop, update, and maintain Helm charts for various applications and services.
- Dependency Management: Handle dependencies between different Helm charts and Kubernetes resources.
- Repository Management: Set up and manage Helm repositories, including private repositories.
- Cluster Design and Architecture: Design and architect Kubernetes clusters to meet the needs of the organization.
- Resource Optimization: Optimize resource allocation and utilization within the Kubernetes cluster.
- Security: Implement security best practices, including RBAC, network policies, and secret management.
- Work with product owners, developers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements for new services.
- Provide regular updates on the status of Kubernetes and Helm-related projects.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure applications are containerized and Helm charts are correctly configured.
- Work with operations teams to ensure smooth deployment and operation of services.
- Mentor junior engineers and new team members on Kubernetes and Helm chart management.
- Develop and maintain documentation for Helm charts, Kubernetes configurations, and best practices.
What you'll bring to the role
- 3+ years of experience with System Design and Kubernetes architecture, components, and operations.
- 3+ years of cloud computing experience with either GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Strong grasp of networking concepts, including service discovery, load balancing, and DNS.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes security best practices, RBAC, and network policies.
- Understanding of persistent storage options in Kubernetes.
- In-depth knowledge of Helm, specifically Helm v3, chart structure, and templating.
- Proven experience in creating, managing, and deploying Helm charts in production environments.
- Experience in managing dependencies between different Helm charts and Kubernetes resources.
- Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Go.
- Proficiency in writing and managing YAML files, which are extensively used in Helm charts.
- Proven experience with Docker or other containierzation technologies with creating and managing highly scalable applications.
- Monitoring and Logging: Experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment tools.
- Bachelor of Computer Science, Electrical/Software Engineering or other related degrees.
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) and Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) certifications are considered an asset.
