Job Scope:

We are looking for a Supervisor of DNA Sequencing Lab as part of US Based, highly automated gene synthesis operations. The incumbent will work with the Director, Manager, staff research associate/technicians, and laboratory assistants in a multi-disciplinary manufacturing environment; supports in daily operation, maintenance, and systematic workflow of the DNA sequencing facility. The candidate in this position is responsible for training and supervision of laboratory assistants/technicians, coordinating with the relevant stakeholders in the manufacturing operations, and also sets up efficient scheduling of sequencing workflow for a minimum turnaround time. The position is also expected to help with the data analysis/bioinformatics of full DNA/plasmid sequencing data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • supervise the site sequencing personnel, equipment, materials and process to ensure stable and orderly daily production
  • Through knowledge of Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing(NGS) workflow, preparing DNA sequencing samples by organizing and setting up sequencing reactions, schedule sequencing runs on DNA analyzers
  • Optimize and perform cleanup of sequencing reactions, operations knowledge of automated liquid handlers
  • Lead sequencing team, track performance and participate in performance rating
  • Analyze sequencing results, generate test reports, and give technical guidance to guide team members
  • Evaluate sequencing run results, and coordinate with data analysis group
  • Improve quality standards in sequence data generation, and lead key projects to continuously optimize sequencing workflow
  • Perform instrument calibrations and regular maintenance including but not limited to DNA analyzers; acts as liaison with outside vendors relevant to sequencing instruments
  • Troubleshoot instrument performance issues and make recommendations and/or adjustments to improve work efficiency
  • Execute SOP through training and supervision. Continuously optimize SOP to improve operational efficiency
  • Train and supervise lab personnel's, troubleshoot failed or poor results
  • Keep abreast with the latest advancement in sequencing technologies, develop new protocols for streamlined as well as to handle complex workflow, and provide suggestions
  • Responsible for team building and day to day management, including 5S, quality data generation, safety, and employee morale
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology. Chemistry or related fields
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in DNA Sequencing platform(Sanger and/or NGS), analyzing DNA materials, sequencing workflow management, and data analysis
  • Good understanding in the quantification and qualification methods of plasmid DNA, including spectrophotometric analysis, and electrophoresis
  • Team management experience is preferred
  • Must have experience working in a high throughput manufacturing environment, and flexible to modification in work environment
  • Strong team management, communication and coordination skills
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology required, knowledge in project management, 5S management, quality management systems are preferred
  • Experience with automation tools is preferred
  • Have a strong sense of work responsibility and cost awareness
