The Role – Director of Engineering, Professional Services  

As a Director of Engineering for our Professional Services Division, you will have the opportunity to manage a global team with direct reports in London, Australia, and oversight of a team in Europe. Professional Services work closely with some of the largest sporting leagues, brands and sportsbooks in the world to deliver bespoke solutions leveraging Genius Sports’ unique data assets.

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy working closely with customers to design solutions and thrive working on a diverse range of projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Manage a geographically distributed engineering team responsible for the delivery of projects, product features and initiatives agreed by the commercial team.
  • Create and execute technical strategy for the professional services organization.
  • Stakeholder management and expectation setting, along with proactive engagement when things aren’t going to plan.
  • Responsible for the security and operational costs of products built by the professional services team.
  • Identify, raise awareness, and find solutions for systemic problems in the product architecture and delivery team
  • Author technical responses to RFPs and work closely with customers to architect bespoke solutions in the fan engagement space.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with key commercial and product stakeholders and clients, ensuring that technical priorities are visible and considered to ensure a productive team.
  • Community and Wellbeing champion, building a culture where learning is valued and supported.

 Requirements:

  • 8+ years in the software development industry, including 3+ in leadership & team management roles. An agency / professional services background would be ideal.
  • Excellent leadership, presence, and delivery management skills with a proven track record working in distributed environments.
  • A passion not just for technology, but also for sports.
  • Strong technical background combined with strong, proactive communication skills and the ability to remove the jargon and interface with stakeholders and clients
  • Strong knowledge of backend applications, ideally PHP and Symfony framework
  • Solid understanding of ReactJS and responsive single-page web applications
  • Strong CS fundamentals (data structures and algorithms, system architecture, resiliency and redundancy)
  • Solid experience with Cloud Computing, ideally with AWS (EC2, RDS, Elasticache, WAF)
  • Solid knowledge of Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and how to monitor and optimize queries for high load applications
  • Experience integrating with 3rd party applications, e.g., Auth (OAuth/OIDC), analytics libraries, ad serving, data warehousing, data backups etc.

Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of other back-end technologies (Node.js, Kotlin / Spring Boot)
  • Experience configuring CDN technologies (AWS CloudFront, Akamai, CloudFlare )
  • Experience working with infrastructure-as-code (IAC) templates (CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Domain knowledge, particularly in the free-to-play (fantasy and predictor) gaming space
  • Experience integrating libraries to handle authentication, advertising and analytics
