Summary

This is a full-time position with the Communications & External Affairs team to support activities that further the understanding of Bill Gates’s work and contributions in the areas of global health, climate change, education, technology, and philanthropy. The role supports the team’s proactive story and content development efforts, including coordination with internal and external partners, domestic and international news outlets, non-media constituents, and influencers (e.g., researchers, philanthropists, and business leaders).

Responsibilities:

Support efforts to develop stories that have not yet been told about the work of our office—stories that can help audiences connect to the importance and complexity of the problems being addressed, innovations being developed, people behind the work, and those the work has the potential to benefit.

  • Contribute to communications plans and strategies
  • Provide program management and logistical support
    • Help coordinate meetings with internal and external partners (including scheduling and development of agendas, recaps, and follow-up)
    • Develop workback schedules and track progress for stories and projects
    • Manage correspondence with key partners, including media
    • Contribute to regular reporting, including coverage summaries and results analysis
  • Conduct research, contribute to story mining and idea generation, and help document stories and case studies our office may wish to promote.
  • Contribute to briefing materials for interviews, partner engagements, and other meetings and events.
  • As with most communications and external affairs jobs, work outside normal office hours—including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays—may be required.
  • Travel may also be required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 5–7 years of experience in public relations, executive communications, public or corporate affairs.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to write clearly and quickly. Demonstrated attention to detail in composing, drafting, and proof-reading materials.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and to meet deadlines while working on several projects at a time.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations. Proactive, able to anticipate and solve problems before they occur.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in all communications. Ability to uphold and ensure security at all times.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, collaborative, and professional attitude in stressful and time-sensitive situations and circumstances.
  • Must be able to pass Background Investigation including criminal, public records and credit checks.

Computer Skills: Position requires proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook – Expert, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Compensation & Benefits 

The salary range for this position is $95,000-$110,000 per year. Starting salary offers will vary depending on a number of factors, including education, experience, and qualifications. This role also qualifies for a discretionary annual bonus. Gates Ventures offers a comprehensive benefits package including  medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance and a 401(k) program with employer match.
