The Role

Gates Ventures seeks a manager to develop and implement a new program focused on emerging topics in global policy and politics. This manager will work closely with a senior colleague to design an integrated program that is responsive to policy and political developments, expands internal learning, and identifies new advocacy opportunities. We’re looking for a professional who is highly engaged on global policy and political trends and capable of translating ideas into programmatic development. Candidates should value a small, entrepreneurial environment that values both independent work and collaboration. • Synthesizing information to distill concrete takeaways and questions for leadership.
  • Drafting initial program strategies and planning documents.
  • Developing briefing materials, including background research and policy and political analysis.
  • Relationship and external consultant management.
  • Supporting and running a variety of unforeseen projects.

Required skills

  • Self starter: ability to handle ambiguity and work independently with a high degree of comfort.
  • Forward looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Intellectually curious and capable of translating trends and ideas into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Data oriented, yet balanced with an ability to step back from the data and draw conclusions.
  • Proven track record to respectfully influence, motivate, negotiate, collaborate, and partner with multiple team members across varying levels of authority and leadership.
  • Keen eye for attention to detail.
  • Discretion and judgment – utmost care for confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in program development, policy research, and/or political advising.
  • Experience conducting extensive online research and composing summary reports.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant Master’s degree is helpful but not required.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$140,000 per year. Starting salary offers will vary depending on a number of factors, including education, experience, and qualifications. This role also qualifies for a discretionary annual bonus. Gates Ventures offers a comprehensive benefits package including  medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance and a 401(k) program with employer match. Our benefits also include generous paid time off for vacation, sick leave, holidays, and parental leave.
