The role: 

The Assistant General Counsel, Galileo Financial Technologies, LLC will perform many and varied legal tasks related to a growing company in the financial sector.  The position reports to the Head of Legal.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experienced in payment network and association rules, Cobrand Card Program management, revolving credit expertise, and banking core deployment
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, client agreements, licensing agreements, master services agreements and partnership agreements
  • Advising business leaders on contract status, legal risks, and business terms of various deals
  • Researching unique legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes
  • Keeping abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its affiliates
  • Working with outside counsel on ongoing arbitration and litigation work and anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the company and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk
  • Identify applicable laws and regulations, assess risk to the business, and provide actionable advice to team members throughout the organization
  • Assist in the review and assessment of new products, features, and uses of data to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Provide timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on payments law, consumer financial services law, and banking regulations.
  • Engage with, advise and support product, engineering and customer support teams
  • Maintain and update terms of service and end user agreements
  • Other assignments on an ad hoc basis

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited law school; current registration in the Utah bar preferred, California or New York also acceptable
  • 5-8 years practicing law, with a combination of in-house (preferably in a regulated industry, financial services, Fintech or technology services) and law firm experience preferred.
  • Experience and expertise in one or more particular fields of legal specialization including anti-money laundering, debit card rules and regulations, prepaid card rules and regulations, credit card rules and regulations, consumer protection laws and regulation, and other payment related fields
  • Knowledge concerning legal issues involving financial entities
  • Ability to embrace change and thrive in a fast paced environment with conflicting priorities, multiple projects, and deadline pressure.
  • Ability to conduct accurate, high-quality legal research
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience with foreign laws and jurisdictions
  • Spanish / Portuguese fluency 
  • Business savvy and ability to partner with business teams to facilitate achievement of business objectives
  • Positive attitude, a sense of humor, unquestioned level of ethics and integrity and intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to work effectively with and manage business personnel at all levels
  • Collegial style, team player

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.

$153,600$216,000 USD
