Who You Are: 

  • You are an experienced Database Specialist with 8+ years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a Database Specialist managing AWS Aurora MySQL and MySQL databases in production environments in an administrative role.
  • Strong Proficiency in database design (tables/schemas/foreign keys/triggers/stored procedures), database query performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with database backup and recovery procedures, including data sanitization for non-production environments, point-in-time recovery, and failover for production environments.
  • Some experience with OLAP reporting databases or NoSQL columnar databases and organizing data optimized for reporting is desirable
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services, including EC2, RDS, S3, and IAM.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • AWS Certification(s) is a plus.
  • Experience with other database systems such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server is desirable.

What You Will Do: 

  • Install, configure, and manage AWS Aurora MySQL and MySQL database systems.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring efficient query execution and resource utilization, close involvement in database design (tables/schemas/foreign keys/triggers/stored procedures), database query performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis and troubleshooting
  • Ability to take complete ownership of the database design and set a review process for ongoing database changes with the development teams with a focus on instituting best practices to standardize and optimize database design and performance
  • Tune cluster and instance parameter groups to achieve the best performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data corruption.
  • Collaborate with software developers and system administrators to design and deploy database solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Implement and enforce database security best practices, including user access controls, encryption, and auditing.
  • Perform database schema design, modification, and optimization to support application development and data analytics.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures, technical specifications, and system diagrams.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in database administration, cloud computing, and data management.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to database emergencies outside of regular business hours as needed.Nice to Have:
