Dismantling systemic injustice requires a strong team of highly talented people who have the skills, capacity and passion our scholars deserve.The Director of Teacher Leadership and Development ensures K-12 alignment of practice by coaching and developing a team of Team Leaders to create learning environments promoting highly executed lessons thus achieving the academic goals. The DoTLD also manages the teacher development programming for FA’s emerging teachers.

Reports to: Sr. Director of Training and Development

Data driven decision making and coaching
- Model and teach how to build strong, appropriate, and mutually respectful relationships with scholars.
- Drive fidelity of culture systems that support academic excellence across the school, including supporting positive behavior, attendance, and more.
- Develop the Emerging Teacher Program
- Supervise the Sr. Manager of Emerging Teachers
- Track, analyze and utilize school-wide academic and culture data and make adjustments to ensure equity in systems. Provide feedback directly to teachers and leaders.
- Ensure K-12 alignment in Team Leader practice and outcomes by the following:
- Coach a portfolio of Team Leaders. Observe classrooms daily and deliver targeted feedback to teachers and Team Leaders to build and maintain a nurturing a culture of learning.
- Facilitate excellent, practice-changing professional development in response to scholar and teacher data, grounded in school/network goals and priorities. (Execution of rigorous lesson plans, SEL, Addressing Tier 2 and 3 Behaviors, Creating a Culture of Learning, and more.)
- Create and execute a professional development scope and sequence for Team Leaders that equips and empowers them to achieve academic and culture goals through the teachers on their grade level/team
Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills:
- Demonstrate the ability to be self-aware in stressful situations and model exceptional self-management skills.
- Lead with accountability, empathy, emotional intelligence and empowerment. Lead by example.
- Engage in Promise Driven accountability conversations when equity is not being exhibited.
- Collaborate with the K-12 Team Leaders to norm on practices, learn from each other, and improve scholar achievement across the network.
- Model FA professional and core values at all times.
- Remain current on best practice and differentiate approaches for teacher leaders
Accountable: (What you are accountable for does not change, You are the decider on pivots within the system to meet the following goals)
- Effectively develop and execute a high-performance culture plan grounded in the FA Culture Handbook that creates and maintains an org-wide culture of structure and pride (i.e. implementation of incentive systems, club and enrichment activities, clear schoolwide expectations). Thus achieving:
- 95% scholar attendance rate
- 85% proficiency and a 30% increase proficiency overall in scholar achievement results, outperforming city and state metrics in ELA, Math and Science on NJSLA for the grade level.
- 80% of scholars demonstrate behaviors that are Tier 1
- Suspension rate <5%
- Coaching Team Leaders and collaborating with School leadership teams to creatively and strategically establish and maintain high standards of team performance by developing clear long-term and annual goals, actively monitoring performance, providing actionable feedback, ongoing development and resources to continuously improve thus retaining 90% of teachers.
- Retain 90% of the Assistant Teachers through the effective development and execution of the Emerging Teacher Program
- 90% of Assistant teachers become certified teachers in 3 years

Educational Background and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree in Education or related fields.
- At least 3 years of exceptional teaching experience with a record of high scholar achievement.
- At least 2 years of successful experience leading, managing and developing adults.
Salary: $80,000-$108,000
