We are seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President (AVP) and Actuary to join the Experience Study and Analytics team. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in the creation and analysis of life and annuity experience studies. As an AVP and Actuary, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive research, analyzing data, and providing insights to enhance our actuarial processes. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in experience studies, programming skills preferably in Python, and familiarity with actuarial controls.

The position is located in the Fortitude Re Nashville, TN office on a hybrid schedule with minimal travel expected (0%-15%).

What You Will Do:

  • Develop Life and Annuity Experience Studies: Lead the development and execution of life and annuity experience studies to evaluate mortality, persistency, and other key metrics. Analyze trends and patterns to identify areas for improvement and inform assumption setting.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Utilize advanced statistical methods and actuarial techniques to analyze large datasets. Extract meaningful insights and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders. Review and assist in developing scripts and tools to facilitate data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Implement Actuarial Controls: Implement control best practices on experience studies. Ensure proper documentation of methodologies, assumptions, code, and results to support transparency and reproducibility.

What You Will Have:

  • Qualified Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or Institute of Actuaries or career ASA.
  • 5+ years of experience in actuarial roles within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Experience with managing a small team is preferred.
  • Familiarity with reinsurance is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in actuarial concepts and methodologies, including experience studies, pricing, and reserving.
  • Proficient programming skills, with expertise in Python preferred. Familiarity with other programming languages (e.g., R, SQL) is a plus.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development environments is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality work products within established timelines.
  • Commitment to professional development and staying abreast of industry trends and best practices.

The base salary range for this role is listed below and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.
