POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Capital Projects Team develops, coordinates, and directs projects in design and construction of processing plants utilizing Fortera’s proprietary technologies, which will be located at existing cement or lime facilities. We internally drive projects to successful completion, utilizing EPC contractors for the engineering and construction of large-scale plants.

We are currently looking for a Project Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing design and construction projects on large commercial-scale plants in the mining, cement, or chemical process industries.

In this position, you will manage internal and external technical and construction teams in the design, procurement, and construction of process plants which produce low to zero CO2 cement. These facilities are first of a kind and will be executed on aggressive schedules. Supported by an internal team, you will maintain responsibility for the overall delivery of projects defined by the scope, schedule, and budget. You ensure efficient performance on the project by focusing on communication, project planning, scheduling, change management, project controls, progress measurement, and economic evaluation. As part of the Capital Projects Team, you will work closely with engineering, operations, legal, finance, and business development, to develop and shepherd projects through definition and execution phases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute projects safely, within budget and on schedule, in accordance with Fortera’s principles and best practices. Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary internal and external technical teams to ensure that design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities are completed on schedule and on budget.
  • Establish project alignment with organizational needs. Prepare Project Charter and other key project plan documentation. Generate preliminary scope definition for the project. Complete project organization chart for the execution of the work. Establish communication channels and protocols for the project, the team, and stakeholders.
  • Working with projects controls, develop and manage project budget and schedule.
  • Define and manage the high-level project risks, assumptions, and constraints. Maintain stakeholder alignment through regular updates on cost, schedule, project performance and risks throughout the lifecycle.
  • Own all execution details of the project; working closely with all internal and external technical teams and subject matter experts to resolve design, procurement, and construction issues.
  • Working with the project engineer, coordinate appropriate discipline design reviews to ensure technical quality and ensure feedback from Operations organization.
  • Ensure the projects team has provided appropriate scopes of work for EPC companies, specialty consultants, and equipment vendors.
  • Work with the procurement team to properly integrate procurement activities with other engineering, construction, and commissioning activities – produce RFQ packages, bid lists, bid tabs, and award recommendations.
  • Support the development and negotiations of contracts with EPC contractors and equipment vendors.
  • Administer project’s contracts - reviewing contractor performance for compliance, evaluating change requests, and taking proactive action to rectify any issues.
  • Define and implement project quality management plans.
  • Create risk management and response plan.
  • Define and implement change management per company guidelines.
  • Manage project decision register on cost, schedule, safety, and quality.
  • Monitor and control project risks and regularly update the stakeholders of major developments.
  • Define and manage all project interfaces, including coordinating with the site location host.
  • Define and develop systems completion plans (including mechanical completion, commissioning, and start-up) in conjunction with Operations.
  • Responsible for implementing and enforcing the Company’s EHS/Safety policies and procedures onsite, ensuring that all employees are working safely and compliance with all state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, business, or other applicable areas.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience working as a project manager within the heavy industrial and/or construction industries on projects with budgets >$100MM.
  • Experience with engineering, procurement, and construction management.
  • Experience managing EPCs and equipment suppliers.
  • A high degree of experience and understanding of industrial construction methodologies.
  • Extensive experience in the use of processes and workflows in the execution of projects.
  • Strong technical communication skills and ability to interface with multiple teams. including external, business, and technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Learn and adapt quickly and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Ability to work in both an office setting and construction environments.
  • Travel as needed for project success.

COMPENSATION:

The compensation package for this role includes a compensation package commensurate with experience of $150,000 - $175,000, an annual bonus, and pre-IPO incentive stock options.
