The Role:

As our organization and customer base have rapidly grown, the quantity and complexity of data has accelerated. Finding new and optimal ways of leveraging this data empowers our organization to make better decisions and gain insights to drive the next phase of growth. 

 To fully unlock the power of our data we are seeking a staff or principal data engineer who will design and build a data platform to empower our analysts and decision makers with data related questions. 

 You will work closely with the Engineering, Product, Executive and business users to design and implement a new data platform which will be leveraged across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience and skill designing, building, and operating data solutions. We are looking for strong technical leaders to build a platform that powers analyses for our next phase of growth. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and maintain a data platform that is accurate, secure, available and fast 
  • Engineer efficient, adaptable and scalable data pipelines to process data. Add and maintain a variety of data sources: different databases, APIs, files, logs, events, etc. 
  • Create standardized datasets to service a wide variety of use cases  
  • Develop subject-matter expertise in tables, systems, and processes 
  • Partner with product and engineering to ensure product changes integrate well with the data platform 
  • Partner with diverse stakeholder teams, understand their challenges, and empower them with data solutions to meet their goals 

Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of experience as an Analytics Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer, or similar role 
  • You have hands-on and deep experience with schema design, data modeling and data pipelining 
  • You are proficient in SQL and at least one major language (e.g., Python, Java, PHP) 
  • You have an eye for detail. You catch & resolve data quality issues before others do
  • You are always looking for opportunities to simplify, automate tasks, and build reusable components. You use good judgment in applying new technologies to solve business problems
  • You strive for elegant and intuitive dataset design 
  • You build strong relationships with analysts, business and engineering stakeholders to create a productive team culture
  • You are independent. You can prioritize well and break down amorphous problems into concrete tasks based on business context 
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time in an office setting or in a home office setting while working

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Statistics knowledge is a plus 
  • Leadership aspiration: this role could grow in scope for the right candidate 
  • Experience working at a startup or small company
