As a Data Engineer at Foot Anstey, you will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of our data infrastructure, including working within our agile delivery teams to develop new solutions / enhancements and supporting our technical services team with any LIVE issues. Further responsibilities will include building data solutions to requirements, root cause analysis and resolution of issues/bugs, demoing work to stakeholders of all levels in collaboration with various teams (i.e. project, training and adoption, and IT support) and providing technical expertise / guidance as required.  You'll ensure technical changes are made in accordance with the chosen delivery methodology in line with our coding standards, deployment controls and testing framework.  Acting as an internal technical expert for work across data applications you'll be accountable for knowing what changes have been made to the base applications alongside understanding how our partner frameworks can be leveraged appropriately.  

What you will do:

  • Provide hands-on technical expertise to design and implement data-based solutions satisfying user requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners in implementing the best solution for certain circumstances and requirements.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and be aware of industry standards, best practices, and trends.
  • Work closely with our development partners to understand their capabilities and how we can leverage these as much as possible within the development process.
  • Provide feedback, advice, and informed opinion where appropriate.
  • Have a natural ability to impart your knowledge to all types of internal and external stakeholders.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience working as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical problems clearly via demos, documentation and knowledge sharing to all manner of stakeholders.
  • The ability to listen and communicate to stakeholders to understand their challenges.
  • Experience producing and maintaining clear, effective documentation.
  • Experience supporting a QA team with smoke testing and functional testing.
  • The ability to understand 3rd Party applications, and how they interact with our features.
  • The ability to anticipate and advise of any unexpected implications of suggested system changes.
  • Experience of working closely with BAs to question and understand business requirements.
  • Good communication in stand-ups, with stakeholders and the rest of the project team.
  • Someone who proactively identifies areas where certain solutions can be improved.
  • Someone who is eager to learn and to proactively improve knowledge through online training materials, blogs, etc. alongside sharing this with the wider team.
  • Flexibility, and the ability to adapt quickly to changes.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Confidence in providing guidance to and support the users in their efforts to become proficient in the use of the applications.
  • Microsoft certification in relevant data engineering areas preferable but not mandatory.
