The role of a trainee
As one of our trainees, you will undertake six seats of four months across two years. Regular, open communication with your supervisors comes as standard. You will get lots of exposure to different situations and to people within the firm who will help you to develop your legal and commercial expertise, in an environment that is friendly and supportive. We aim to recruit talented future Solicitors and with a retention rate of c.90% you will be given the opportunity to reach your full potential with us.
Our training contracts are firm wide and you will be expected to undertake at least one seat in a different office. One of the traits of a good solicitor is the ability to cross-sell and this cross office approach allows you to build a strong foundation for when you qualify. Furthermore, we are looking to develop you into a business adviser within one of our four key sectors and it is vital you have a breadth and depth of experience in order to achieve this. Working across teams and offices will ensure you are successful.
Training contracts available
We can consider one additional trainee solicitor for 2019, however, the focus is on 2020, 2021 and 2022.
We will hold a minimum of three vacation scheme in June 2019 across our Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth offices. During the week you will be aligned to a team and be given a true insight into the role of a trainee solicitor, including client interaction. We will ensure you leave us at the end of the week with an in-depth knowledge of the culture and how we can develop your potential.
At the end of the week you will have an assessment for a training contract. These are designed to see you at your best, not to trip you up. We will focus on assessing your potential of becoming a successful solicitor with us.
You do not need any prior legal experience to apply for a vacation scheme.
We will hold a series of assessment days in early July 2019.
We require you to have gained some legal work experience to apply for a training contract.
The recruitment process
The deadline for vacation scheme applications is 1 April 2019 and for training contracts it is 1 June 2019. Within two weeks of the respective deadlines you will receive an update. After your application has been reviewed, if successful you will be invited to attend a Skype interview. If you have demonstrated the potential we require you will then be invited to either the vacation scheme or assessment day.
The application is a two part process. We want you to upload your CV, as we feel this will give you an opportunity to provide more information about yourself. You will also need to complete the applications questions below, taking particular care over the three core questions which are designed to highlight your potential.
