Building the User Experience That Makes Global Trade Easy
The Opportunity:
Our Enterprise Engineering group works on building the software that enables global brands, with supply chains at scale and complexity, to visualize, manage and optimize their entire supply chain through one intuitive software platform. We build software to help them procure products globally, explore and purchase logistics services to meet their needs, manage the many steps along the way, collaborate with their trade partners, and analyze their data, ultimately making the complexity of global supply chains easy.
Here are some of the key product areas we work in and teams we are hiring for:
- Logistics Service Exploration and Booking: Our marketplace team allows our customers to search for and book logistics services to meet their needs across a variety of modes (Ocean, Air,Truck, Rail) and logistics services (Customs, Insurance, and Capital). We bridge our customers and our logistics partners through simple experiences and apis, changing the way logistics is sold, similar to how Expedia and Kayak removed the need for travel agents.
- Supply Chain Management: Providing the capabilities for our customers to manage the life cycle of a shipment using an intuitive interface at scale. We build ways to make sure customers and participants can act on the right task at the right time, through collaboration tools, dashboards, task management, and search.
- Shipment Visibility: Ensuring our customers know exactly where their products are and when they will be delivered globally for Ocean, Air, and Trucking. We leverage the many logistics events as ships, planes, trucks and trains move through the world to present intuitive maps, lists, filters and APIs to make sure our customers have accurate location information at a macro level to the product level.
- Order Management: Order Management provides visibility and control beyond the four walls of a company; connects brands with factories, trade agents, and suppliers; and enables real-time collaboration for just-in-time production and delivery.
- Reporting and Analytics: Our reporting and analytics product helps clients understand and analyze their supply chain data. We allow customers to slice and dice across a variety of dimensions to improve their supply chain performance.
- Customer Experience and API Platform: We build our products to serve both internal and external developers to create integrated solutions. We build platform products to make it easy for Flexport engineering teams to build specific, yet integrated experiences. We build capabilities for the teams to expose APIs easily for customers, technology partners and developers to build.
You Will:
- Work to build the software to manage and optimize the most complex supply chains, ultimately making trade easy.
- Work closely with product managers, designers, business partners to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
- Design and implement systems that represent the real-world intricacies of logistics entities, such as services, rates, charges, quotes, invoices, and pricing.
- Ensure our products maintain a high-quality bar. We believe in anticipating issues by obsessing over metrics and applying key learnings from post-mortems to all our services.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to execute against the vision and roadmap.
- Onboard and mentor engineers. We believe in structured onboarding and mentoring processes to ensure a smooth transition into the team and then continued development on the team.
- Tackle difficult and subtle system-level issues, emphasizing simplicity and long-lasting designs. As we extract services out of the monolith, we take pride in untangling legacy code and re-building with composability in mind.
- Geek out about experiences, prices, quotes, APIs and logistics optimization. (We do this often.)
You Should Have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience writing software, and a strong engineering background.
- A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
- The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers and engineers alike.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers in all aspects of their engineering skill-sets.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operations.
- A desire to develop your tooling repertoire. We are tech-agnostic regarding candidate background, but our platform is built with React, Ruby, Java/Kotlin.
- A bias for action. When you see a problem, you solve it.
- Non-optional: An aptitude for learning quickly.
Our Stack:
Our continuous releases are integrated with Buildkite and Github. On the frontend, we create our views with React + Next.js, manage the flow of data with GraphQL/Relay, and test our application with Jest. On the backend, we’re in the process of decoupling our monolithic Rails app into a Micro Services architecture, primarily on JVM languages (Java and Kotlin). Our data is persisted in the right store for the job, typically Postgresql or MongoDB. Our stack is hosted on AWS using Kubernetes. You will be responsible for creating the right architecture for the Order Management team.
