Are you a strategic communicator who thrives on tackling global challenges? Our International Affairs team is looking for a dynamic Account Director to develop high-impact campaigns on some of the most critical global issues, from climate change and geopolitics to economic development and humanitarian initiatives.

Why FleishmanHillard?

At FleishmanHillard, we deliver campaigns that inspire change and influence global conversations. Our International Affairs team partners with foreign governments, international organisations, and purpose-led companies to craft creative, integrated communications strategies that make a difference.

You’ll join a collaborative, globally connected team that specialises in translating complex global issues into meaningful, actionable narratives. Supported by our worldwide network, you’ll be at the forefront of campaigns that shape international agendas.

The Role

As an Account Director, you’ll develop communications campaigns that influence opinions and drive awareness. From media relations to stakeholder engagement, you’ll craft integrated strategies to elevate our clients' messages on the global stage. You’ll work closely with the Head of International Affairs to deliver creative and results-driven communications for government, NGO, and corporate clients.

Reporting into the Directors, you’ll be a trusted advisor to clients, help them manage reputational challenges and amplify their impact. Additionally, you’ll play a key role in shaping our International Affairs offering, identifying growth opportunities, and supporting new business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Leadership: Act as the day-to-day lead for key clients, ensuring seamless delivery of communications programmes across media, stakeholder engagement, and digital platforms.
  • Integrated Communications: Develop and implement creative strategies that manage issues and drive positive narratives for clients on topics like trade, sustainability, and global development.
  • UK Media Relations: Lead media strategies, pitch stories, and build relationships with key journalists and influencers to secure impactful coverage across international and specialist outlets.
  • Campaign Delivery: Manage multi-market campaigns, coordinating with colleagues across our global network to deliver consistent and high-quality results.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop strategies for stakeholder mapping and engagement, crafting clear, persuasive messaging for government, business, and civil society audiences.
  • Issues Management: Provide strategic counsel and support to clients navigating reputational risks and complex global challenges.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire, mentor, and lead junior team members, ensuring collaboration and the delivery of top-quality work.
  • Business Growth: Drive new business opportunities by identifying prospects, supporting proposals and pitches, and growing existing client relationships.

About You

You’re an experienced communications professional with:

  • Strategic Expertise: A proven track record of crafting and delivering creative, integrated communications strategies for governments, NGOs, or multilateral organisations.
  • Media Skills: Strong UK media relations experience, with established contacts in both traditional and digital outlets and the ability to deliver impactful coverage.
  • Global Perspective: A deep understanding of international and UK political, economic, and social landscapes, with expertise in navigating complex global issues.
  • Creative Thinking: The ability to turn complex issues into compelling stories and campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Business Acumen: Experience identifying and securing new business opportunities, with a focus on growing and retaining client accounts.
