As the Community Marketing Associate you will be joining Flatiron School’s growing Regional Marketing team, working cross-functionally to build and maintain a strong community in Sydney, Australia. You are the face of Flatiron School to prospective students, a culture carrier, and a positive experience creator. This role has an opportunity to not only invent and refine what community engagement looks like for prospective students, but also to innovate through mediums like social media, local marketing tactics, end to end events management, sponsorships, and local partners. This is a cross functional role reporting into the Regional Marketing team with collaboration across the Admissions, Education, and Operations teams.


The Community Marketing Associate will:

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of local events: 

    • Identify target audience in and around Sydney to generate hundreds of event attendees on a monthly basis

    • Develop creative marketing plans to drive attendance to every event

    • Draft copy for pre-and post-event communications and all event promotional materials

    • Oversee run of show logistics including vendor relationships, food & beverage, decorations, swag, confirmation of speakers, post event surveys etc.

    • Manage monthly event budget and calendar

    • Report on a regular basis event ROI to track effectiveness based on applicant conversion rates and attendee satisfaction

    • Work after hours to manage onsite event experience up to 2x per week

    • Conduct regular campus tours with prospective students 

  • Activate relevant local partners and communities to grow Flatiron School presence: 

    • Grow and improve Flatiron School’s presence in the communities we’re currently active in, including several MeetUp groups, Creative Mornings, etc.

    • Surface and secure new local engagement opportunities and build relationships with community organisations, target audiences, and other stakeholders

    • Regularly attend other local tech MeetUps to find and staff other local activations Flatiron School should be at (conferences, fairs, etc.)

    • Regularly communicate Flatiron School offerings to WeWork counterparts with the goal to leverage and activate the WeWork member community

    • Field questions from community members via email

    • Track and analyse the effectiveness of engagement efforts towards acquisition and conversion on a weekly and monthly basis. 

    • Surface local students, alumni, teachers, and cultural moments that we should create content around

  • Support Regional Marketing Team 

    • Weigh in on local campaign ideas, creative development, and channel strategies 

    • Conduct analysis to support gaining new insights on the market

    • Act as the “eyes and ears”  of each market: regularly share local insights, provide photos, and gather intel on competitors.

    • Support localised content creation across blog, social media, etc.  

    • Support execution of local advertising, including radio, out-of-home, newsletter sponsorships, etc. 

A successful Community Marketing Associate is/has:

  • 2+ years of professional event, field marketing, and community marketing experience.

  • A market-expert: you are native to Sydney or have lived in Sydney for 6+months and are embedded in the local scene

  • A creative thinker: regularly contributing outside-the-box ideas to make your events successful 

  • Extremely social: you thrive in front of a crowd and enjoy interacting with others.

  • A doer: highly motivated, organised and scrappy. Able to see ideas through implementation independently. 

  • A culture carrier: empathetic and mission-driven. 

  • A strong cross-functional communicator that is organised and meets agreed upon deadlines

  • A quick learner: from new applications to new concepts, you pick things up quickly and enthusiastically.

  • Data and goal driven: you constantly tie your work back to what’s making an impact and prioritise ruthlessly. 

  • A team player: passionate about community building, education and/or technology. 

  • Available to work hours: 9:00am-6:00pm. Must be willing to work 2+ evenings a week. 

  • Experience in community management, social media management, or event management (preferred). 

  • Splash experience (a plus).
