Position Summary

Metaphore Bio is actively seeking a talented and highly motivated Associate Scientist/ Scientist I to join our dynamic Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) team at our lab in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will be instrumental in scaling the throughput and rigor of Metaphore’s NGS workflows, while conducting cutting-edge research and contributing to the development of groundbreaking laboratory techniques and applications. The role involves proficiency in NGS support protocols, including NGS library prep, DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, sample quality control techniques, and various other molecular biology techniques

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the development of an innovative platform for cellular and molecular analysis by establishing robust protocols for NGS techniques.
  • Actively participate in the planning and design of new experiments.
  • Execute experiments, analyze raw data, create QC reports, and document results adhering to project timelines.
  • Help establish the NGS team as a central resource for the broader research organization to leverage for sequencing needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform and optimize various protocols for nucleic acid extraction from multiple sample types.
  • Operate and optimize the use of single-cell microfluidics equipment.
  • Prepare NGS libraries, conduct QC, and run Illumina, PacBio and Nanopore sequencers.
  • Maintain lab equipment and independently troubleshoot arising issues.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records in line with standard laboratory procedures, study protocols, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • BA or MS with at least 6+ years of practical (wet lab) experience in molecular biology techniques. Industry experience preferred.
  • Willingness to acquire new research techniques and approaches.
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, and a team-oriented individual with a proven ability to multitask.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and staff across various scientific disciplines and align efforts in line with company objectives.
  • Proficient in developing, preparing, and implementing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Previous experience constructing NGS libraries and operating NGS instruments is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in bioinformatics, with a thorough understanding of Linux and familiarity with Python scripting and statistical programming using R is preferable.
