The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Immunologist to join our team and lead our efforts in vaccine and adjuvant development. You will play a critical role in designing, developing, and evaluating novel vaccines and adjuvants to combat infectious diseases and enhance immune responses. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers to drive innovation and contribute to the advancement of vaccine development.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and facilitate the design, development, and evaluation of vaccine candidates
  • Engage in the active development, optimization, and implementation of immunoassays for vaccine antigens
  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate the immunogenicity, efficacy, and safety of vaccine candidates and immune enhancers using appropriate in vitro and in vivo models
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, and present findings to internal stakeholders and external scientific communities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize vaccine and adjuvant formulations
  • Effectively handle multiple projects and deliverables, including evaluating workload, prioritizing tasks, and determining resource needs to achieve the objectives of the core or project teams
  • Provide scientific expertise and guidance to junior scientists and research associates, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Conduct in-depth literature reviews and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in immunology, vaccine technologies, and adjuvant formulations
  • Stay informed about regulatory guidelines and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in vaccine and adjuvant development

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Virology, Microbiology, or a related field with 12+ years post-PhD experience (at least 5 years in industry)
  • Research experience in vaccines (especially influenza and/or SARS-CoV-2) or in the development of adjuvant systems or immune enhancing molecules is highly desirable
  • Strong expertise in immunological techniques and assay design/ development, including flow cytometry, ELISA, electrochemiluminescent (ECL) assays, cell-based assays such as ELISPOT and/or ASC assays, and animal models
  • Proficient in problem-solving and critical thinking, with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a matrixed organizational structure
  • Adaptable in navigating a dynamic and constantly-changing research landscape
  • Extensive knowledge of vaccine technologies, adjuvant formulations, and immune response mechanisms
  • Experience in designing and conducting preclinical and/or clinical studies, including protocol development, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Proficient in data analysis software and statistical tools
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Prior experience in mentoring and supervising junior scientists is preferred
  • Knowledge of vaccine regulatory landscape and experience interacting with regulatory agencies is a plus
