Mass Spectrometry Associate Scientist/Scientist
Vesalius Therapeutics is seeking a talented Research Associate Scientist / Scientist with broad expertise in mass spectrometry to enable our drug discovery programs. As a part of the Assays & HTS team, you will use a range of assay technologies for high and moderate throughput testing of small molecules to support several portfolio projects.
In this role, you will be an essential part of an interdisciplinary team of highly creative and talented individuals who create and apply these assays. You will use state-of-the-art technologies to enhance the throughput and physiological relevance of assays and advancement of novel therapeutics targeting newly identified disease pathways. What You’ll Do:
- Establish mass spectrometry-based capabilities to measure proteins, lipids, and other biomolecules to enable a diverse portfolio of projects
- Independently conceptualize, design, and perform experiments using high resolution mass spectrometry and related bioinformatic tools
- Perform metabolic profiling of patient-derived cells and profiling of compound activities
- Oversee operation and management of mass spectrometry (MS) lab instrumentation
What You’ll Bring:
- B.S. in molecular biology or related discipline + 4 years of experience (preferably in industry), or MS degree + 10 years and/or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of experimental design
- Extensive experience with modern state-of-the art high resolution mass spectrometers (nanoLC-MS, analytical LC-MS, and MALDI systems)
- Ability to efficiently troubleshoot MS systems and quickly adapt to a diverse portfolio of projects, evolving technology and assay methodologies
- Familiarity with MS bioinformatic software (e.g., Proteome Discoverer, Protein Metrics, BioPharma Finder, PEAKS, etc.) and establish data infrastructure for MS data through coordinated effort with data informatics team
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment as a team player with a strong work ethic, excellent communication abilities and time management skills
- Curiosity and willingness to ask questions and seek clarity
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- A track record of scientific vigor and creativity in carrying out research
