Director of Translational Pharmacology  

 

Vesalius Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Director of Translational Pharmacology who will be responsible for developing, driving, and implementing in vivo pharmacology strategies for Vesalius discovery and development programs. This individual is accountable for the design, direction, and execution (both in-house and with partner CROs) of in vivo pharmacology strategy to profile compounds, help validate proof of mechanism and proof of concept, and develop exposure/response relationships. This role reports to the Head of Drug Discovery.  The Director of Translational Pharmacology will also work in close collaboration with the leaders in Discovery Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Translational Medicine group to impact experiment design and facilitate line of sight from Discovery to Development in areas such as translational pharmacology, exposure-response, and effective human dose projection. The ideal candidate will contribute the vision, expertise, and urgency to enable scientifically sound, innovative, and efficient programs that advance the Vesalius portfolio, and deliver differentiated therapies to patients. 

 

Responsibilities  

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the growing Pharmacology function, which includes pharmacology leads who sit on project teams as well as vivarium personnel  
  • Develop the skills and capabilities of a team of scientists and technicians, manage performance, design organizational structure, and actively recruit for open positions  
  • Expand and grow internal pharmacology capabilities  
  • Working seamlessly with the vivarium manager and with project teams, develop strategy to efficiently use internal and external resources to achieve objectives  
  • Oversee strategic planning and execution of Pharmacology activities  
  • Provide strategic and scientific leadership as part of cross-functional research teams  

 

Qualifications  

  • PhD or MS plus equivalent experience in pharmacology, molecular or cell biology, or related field- PhD with 10+ or MS with 13+ years of proven experience applying in vivo models of disease/pharmacology in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry  
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of pharmacology; extensive experience in designing and executing nonclinical studies to characterize in vivo target engagement, proof of mechanism, and exposure-response; and a demonstrated ability to apply translational thinking to make data-driven decisions based on preclinical and clinical information  
  • Experience overseeing scientific contributions and managing performance of scientific staff, with demonstrated record of developing talent  
  • Excellent project management and organization skills with the ability to effectively manage CROs and to facilitate interactions with academic labs and companies to ensure project progression  
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills; ability to articulate vision, inspire others, and deliver results  
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment with a sense of urgency and creativity and focus on deliverables.
  • Team player with a strong work ethic, able to work both independently and collaboratively 
  • Continuously learns and adapts quickly to new information
  • Authentic, proactively appreciative of different points of view, backgrounds and perspectives
