Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented Senior Scientist to join our growing team to develop the next generation of vaccines and antibody therapeutics for infectious disease. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled molecular biologist to build additional skills in library-scale molecular biology, cutting-edge high throughput screening methods, and next generation sequencing. The role requires a strong background in molecular biology, attention to detail and organization, and comfort working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. Experience with protein engineering, deep mutational scanning, or other functional genomics approaches is a plus. This individual will be an integral part of a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team at the interface of virology, functional genomics, and vaccine design. This candidate should be comfortable in a fast-paced and collaborative start-up environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish robust, scalable workflows to design, clone, and characterize large scale DNA libraries.
- Collaborate with a larger team of scientists to leverage high throughput screening platforms (yeast/mammalian cell/viral display, etc.) to interrogate antigenicity and viral fitness at massive scale.
- Ensure library design, screening strategies, and analyses are tightly linked to protein structure/function and aligned with project goals.
- Collaborate with computational scientists to guide data analysis, interpret results, and build a rapid iterative experimental cycle.
- Analyze data promptly to clearly depict and communicate results to the cross-functional team and to leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience molecular biology, synthetic biology, genomics, bioengineering, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience in molecular biology, including PCR, primer design, cloning, sequencing, sequence analysis, etc.
- Working knowledge of protein structure/function relationships
- Knowledge of modern cloning approaches (e.g. Gibson, GoldenGate, etc.)
- Experience with next generation sequencing (Illumina, long-read, etc.)
- Stellar work ethic and a passion for benchwork
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Effective and proactive communication
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in generating diverse DNA libraries, high-throughput cloning, and/or NGS
- Experience in high-throughput screening, functional genomics, and/or protein engineering
- Experience with antibody characterization, immunological assays, viral entry proteins, and/or cell-based functional assays
- Experience with automation or liquid handlers
