Position Summary:

The Scientist, Genetic Epidemiologist will have a critical role in the company’s effort to leverage human genetics to identify therapeutic targets and potential applications in multiple therapeutic areas including Rare Diseases and Oncology.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leveraging publicly available human genetics databases and published literature, in addition to staying abreast of the broader human genetics field to inform therapeutic opportunities and considerations.   

We are searching for a driven, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is comfortable multitasking and working independently on various projects. This individual will join a dynamic, rapidly growing, and highly collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Survey the literature and attend relevant conferences to incorporate latest findings from the broader human genetics field into internal opportunities and considerations
  • Assess and catalog the mutation spectrum and frequency for indications of interest
  • Analyze publicly available human genetic databases to identify therapeutic targets for Gene Writer and Rewriter platforms
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess new therapeutic targets, providing genetic epidemiology perspective on potential new projects across multiple therapeutic areas (including Rare Disease and Oncology)
  • Keep abreast of and use of sequencing (whole exome, whole genome, targeted) in diagnostics field and its potential impact on Tessera platforms and therapeutic projects
  • Actively identify and engage potential external collaborators in the human genetics field

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, or related field with strong background in human genetic disease and/or population genetics. Experience in cancer genetics preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in the analysis and interpretation of large human genetic datasets, ideally both GWAS and whole exome/genome sequencing studies
  • Strong interpersonal, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills; ability to develop strong relationships with cross-functional team members
  • Ability to adapt to modification and changes in project plans, with demonstrated flexibility to implement new tactics to accommodate changes
