Generate Biomedicines is looking for a talented individual to join our automation and robotics team. This team enables multiple functions at Generate to leverage our state-of-the-art high-throughput instrumentation and data pipeline infrastructure. The ideal candidate will translate their computer programming and engineering skills into building methods for liquid handling robots and high-throughput lab instrumentation. Software-specific training will be provided. Work with researchers to adapt manual benchtop protocols into high-throughput methods on liquid handling robots. Translate user feedback into method modification or new feature design. Work closely with the Informatics team to ensure smooth communication between lab instrumentation and our database. Assist researchers with data transformation and organization to ensure proper formatting for database uploads. Identify new opportunities for efficiency through the use of automation by maintaining a holistic view of usage patterns and lab workstreams. This position will work closely with team members across Generate to collaborate on protein purification, biophysical characterization, cell-based functional assays, data collection for machine learning, etc. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, start-up environment with an employee-centric culture.
- Learn instrument-specific software for controlling liquid handling robots including, Hamilton, Tecan, Biomek, Dynamic Devices.
- Build new programs on liquid handling robots based on function needs
- Onboard and maintain robotics and high-throughput instrumentation
- Assist with data extraction, transformation, and loading workflows
- Assist in the process of onboarding users to leverage high-throughput instrumentation
- Good listening skills and multi-disciplinary communication
- Demonstrated experience building programs with user interface elements
- Understanding of the basic principles of user interface design
- Understanding of database structures
- Preferred languages, Python, R, SQL, C++
- The following experience is a plus: molecular biology, cloning, protein purification, cell culture
