FL63 is a highly dynamic, entrepreneurial and innovation-driven organization seeking to hire an exceptional scientist to join our growing team. A successful candidate will have a B.S./M.S. in molecular biology/biotechnology (or equivalent), and an additional 7-10 years of pipeline NGS pipeline development & implementation experience. The candidate’s career goals, laboratory skills, and core competencies should be aligned with the description below.

Key Outcomes:

  1. Design, execute, and interpret multiple NGS experimental workflows with an emphasis on RNA-centric NGS.
  2. Continually cultivate scientific/technical expertise through critical review of the scientific literature, attending external conferences, and developing relationships with key opinion leaders.
  3. Work effectively with a cross-functional biology, technology, and chemistry team to contribute to the vision, strategy, and tactics of the organization.
  4. Willing to work hands-on in the wet lab for the first 1-3 years and to recruit/develop a team in 2-5 years.

Required Skills:

  1. Strong Illumina NGS background with a focus on RNA-seq, various RNA-centric NGS workflows (e.g. RNA-seq, Ribo-seq, eCLIP, RIP-seq, etc…), or equivalent methods/technologies (e.g. ChIP-seq).
  2. Deep experience in a wide range of standard NGS workflows including single cell RNA-seq, hybrid capture target enrichment, targeted RNA-seq (e.g. Amplicon-seq), and NGS library construction.
  3. Experience establishing NGS laboratory capacity/best practices & developing, improving, & deploying standard/novel NGS pipeline assays at scale in an industry/production environment.
  4. Proven track-record of scientific excellence as evidenced by both individual contributions and successful collaborations with molecular/computational biologists to generate hypothesis-generating data & scientific inferences resulting in elucidation of novel mechanisms.
  5. Solid all-round molecular (e.g. nucleic acid purification, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, enzymatic reactions, gel electrophoresis, etc…) & cell biology (mammaiian cell culture, Western blot, IF/ICC microscopy, etc…) toolkit enabling cross-functional contributions.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Exposure to Oxford Nanopore direct RNA sequencing technology and data analysis.
  2. Experience with lab automation/robotics & knowledge of modern statistics-based experimental design methods including Design of Experiments (DoE) models in JMP or equivalent.
  3. Working knowledge in the field of RNA biology.
  4. Experience in Life Science R&D cloud environments including Benchling & AWS.
