The Scores and Screenings team works closely with the Research team and FDA experts to develop features in the areas of Health, Wellness, and Medically-approved diagnostics.  These features provide a rich, data-driven understanding of users’ health and well-being by analyzing the wealth of health metrics collected by Fitbit devices.  This deep data analysis is a pillar of Fitbit’s Premium subscription service offering.

Examples include:

  • Advanced Sleep-analysis features such as Sleep Score
  • Health & Wellness features such as Female Health menstrual tracking
  • FDA-approved medical diagnostic algorithms  -- on the cutting edge of “software as a medical device”

As Engineering Manager for the Scores and Screenings team you will:

  • Hire, lead, manage and develop a mix of Backend, Android and iOS engineers, as well as SDETs and QA Engineers
  • Work cross­-functionally with Development Engineering, Product Management, Program Management, Research and Design across simultaneous projects.
  • Work with the team to develop and deliver cross-platform interactive features (mobile client UX and the backend services that support them) according to SLDC and SW Engineering best practices, including but not limited to:
    • Requirements gathering
    • Estimation and project planning
    • Execution within an iterative agile development process
    • Unified Engineering + QA ownership of Quality on the team
    • Disciplined release, monitoring, and maintenance of all features. (Until their deprecation)
    • Iterative software development methodologies such as: prototyping first and quickly, live user experimentation, data collection and data-driven decision making
  • Work cross­-functionally with Development Engineering, Product Management, Program Management, Research and Design across simultaneous projects.
  • Coordinate test strategies, best practices and reporting.  Work with the team to determine the overall testing strategy, including the optimal balance of automated vs. manual QA, with a goal of greatly increasing automation coverage over time
