The Intercept is looking for a versatile Video Producer with the ability to shoot, produce, and edit news and opinion videos for our website and social media platforms. The Video Producer will collaborate with our reporters on multimedia packages, produce and edit commentary pieces by our columnists, and work with our Director of Video Production to research and develop original story ideas. The ideal candidate must have excellent news judgment, a strong visual sensibility that fits stylistically with The Intercept’s award-winning design, and a deep understanding of and interest in The Intercept’s mission and journalism.
Work with our reporters on multimedia packages
Produce, shoot, and edit video commentary written by our columnists
Produce, shoot, and edit interviews and roundtable discussions with our reporters and guests
Pitch original video stories and ideas
Package videos produced by freelancers and other contributors
Upload videos and input metadata in CMS and on social platforms
Occasional tasks as needed, including filming at live events; overseeing event live-streaming; producing short promotional clips for our Communications, Membership, and Audience departments; assisting other members of video team as needed
Background and Qualifications:
At least 4+ years of experience in video journalism
Knowledge of and interest in current events and politics, as well as other subjects covered by The Intercept, including national security, technology, criminal justice, and the environment
Familiarity with trends and best practices in web-based video
Demonstrated proficiency shooting in both field and studio environments
Mastery of Adobe Premiere
Some knowledge of Adobe After Effects
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and receive and incorporate constructive feedback
Ability to respond to shifting priorities and demands based on organizational needs
