The Role / Position overview

The role of the Middleweight Integrated Designer sits within FT Creative, the FT’s in-house creative team, reporting to the Head of Design for Consumer Services. The role is part of a group of designers who primarily support our brand and paid media subscription campaigns as well as FT and FT Weekend retail promotion.

FT creative team works across the FT portfolio producing digital and print creative whilst developing and protecting the FT brand and sub brands within the portfolio. The creative team is part of the Communications and Marketing (CMG) function that works across the organisation to ensure the FT is positioned as an industry leader in quality digital subscriptions. The CMG team is the driving force behind the brand’s reputation ensuring that FT is recognised as the brand that brings modern, responsible capitalism to life in line with our brand platform, The New Agenda

The Middleweight Integrated Designer will be working on a wide range of briefs from across the business and plays a crucial role in ensuring all marketing collateral has strong brand consistency. You will assist in the development and execution of concepts and integrated campaigns as well as working with existing templates ensuring output is consistently on-brand and conforms to best practice across all channels. This role is primarily digital although some print production experience is necessary. 

As well as working under the supervision of the Head of Design for Consumer Services and Creative Director, you will support the wider team and need to be able to work independently across multiple projects that at times can have a quick turnaround. You need to be a self-starter, resourceful, organised and have the ability to work with people at all levels while maintaining acute attention to detail. 

Key Responsibilities and outputs

  • Create visual assets for digital channels including display ads, emails, events, video and social media

  • Design and deliver print ready assets for event’s collateral

  • Design and deliver integrated brand campaigns covering print, digital, video and event design

  • Update existing digital and print templates, while following brand guidelines

  • Assist the wider team where necessary

  • Keep up to date with competitors as well as the latest digital design trends and innovations to inform design ideas 

Required Skills

  • Strong typography skills 

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

  • Strong video editing and animation skills working with After-Effects 

  • Knowledge of Google Web Designer

  • Knowledge of HTML 

  • Strong conceptual thinking 

  • Impeccable attention to detail 

  • Good communication and presentation skills 

  • Enthusiastic team player and a self-starter 

  • Strong organisational skills and experience dealing with people on all levels

  • Diplomatic, convincing, confident, can-do attitude 

  • Must have a recognized design qualification e.g. BA, BFA etc.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with Animate and DoubleClick Studio

  • Experience working with Squarespace

  • Experience of working with premium brands

  • Previous experience in-house/design agency
