Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our Humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in Sunnyvale, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.
We are looking for a Robotic Safety Engineer to define the safety strategies and compliance of Figure. You will be responsible for working with the engineering teams in order to support safety-critical functions, establishing development methodologies, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards, with a specific focus on obtaining product safety certifications.
Responsibilities:
Apply industry-standard safety methodologies to contribute to the development and architectural design, supporting the deployment of humanoid robot prototypes and safety-critical systems
Develop and implement processes and methodologies for ensuring the safety of autonomous humanoid robot operations, with a keen focus on the entire certification process
Perform safety activities in coordination with design, development, and verification of robotic systems, including generating safety artifacts such as safety plans, risk analysis and reliability assessments
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate safety requirements and ensure consistency between safety activities and development activities
Lead and oversee the entire product safety certification process, working closely with certification authorities to meet industry standards and compliance requirements
Ensure the integration of safety considerations throughout the product development lifecycle, from design to deployment
Requirements:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
At least 5 years of experience getting products through safety certification
Extensive experience in safety engineering on various robotic systems, with a focus on safety-critical functions
Demonstrated ability to solve problems related to robotics
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple organizations
Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions to enhance safety
Track record of obtaining NRTL safety certifications for commercialized products
In depth knowledge of industrial robotics and safety standards such as R15.06, R15.08, IEC 62061 and IEC 61508
Bonus Qualifications:
Advanced Degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
Proven experience leading the certification process for safety-critical products
Familiarity with safety certifications and compliance in the field of robotics
Demonstrated ability to obtain regulatory acceptance of safety documents
