Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our Humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in Sunnyvale, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.
Figure’s vision is to deploy autonomous humanoids at a global scale. Our AI team is looking for Robot Simulation Engineers to empower Figure humanoid robots to robustly perform complex sequences of tasks to contribute real work in physical workplaces.
Responsibilities:
Own physical simulation of the Figure robot, including technical roadmap and use cases
Evaluate different physical simulation options (commercial or free) and make design trade offs and decisions based on robot requirements
Design scalable solutions that integrate with Autonomy, Controls, and Testing systems at Figure
Enable multiple uses of simulation, including:
Generating synthetic datasets for machine learning
Tuning physical simulators to bridge sim-to-real gaps in contact-rich environments like manipulation and locomotion
Designing environments, assets, and APIs that cover customer use cases
Supporting simulation studies that inform future robot design.
Develop and use modern software engineering techniques to implement high quality, well-tested software
Requirements:
Experience with one or multiple physical simulators (e.g. Mujoco, IsaacSim, Drake, Pybullet) and experience in a deployed robotics environment
Have a deep knowledge of state of the art techniques in physical simulation, including accurate simulation of contact dynamics for robot manipulation and locomotion, as well as photorealistic environmental rendering for perception, localization, and machine learning
Strong background in API design, designing general purpose code that serves multiple teams
Thrive in a high pace environment, where solutions are often unclear and require exploration
Experience generating simulated assets, task definitions, and Gym environments
Bonus Qualifications:
Publication record of developing and deploying robot simulation solutions
