Figma is growing our team of passionate people on a mission to make design accessible to all. Born on the Web, Figma helps entire product teams brainstorm, design and build better products — from start to finish. Whether it’s consolidating tools, simplifying workflows, or collaborating across teams and time zones, Figma makes the design process faster, more efficient, and fun while keeping everyone on the same page. From great products to long-lasting companies, we believe that nothing great is made alone—come make with us!

We’re looking for a generalist with a strong grasp of Computer Science fundamentals to make Figma’s Infrastructure platform secure, powerful and fast. You’ll be combining industry best-practices and first-principles approach to design and build scalable Infrastructure systems and services that power Figma’s design and collaboration tool. You will work with a world-class team of engineers on deploying and operating existing systems, and building new ones for problems that are unique to our problem space. Check out this recent blog post for a deeper dive into Infra @ Figma!

This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.

We are currently hiring engineers in following areas:

Databases
The Database team is responsible for all of the Database interfaces and experiences that Figma engineers use on a daily basis. The goal of the Database team is to make it incredibly easy to build scalable, reliable applications that depend on Figma's Database. This team is also responsible for exposing the database architecture as a platform, giving developers insights into how they are using the databases and ways that can improve that interaction. How easy it is to use these interfaces is directly related to how productive Figma engineers feel.

Scaling our Database architecture is both a complex and exciting task that is essential for Figma success. Check out this blog that talks about how we addressed some of the growing pains of databases at Figma and gives a peak into the future work. We are looking for engineers who are excited by challenging distributed system problems, data abstractions and wants to focus on internal developer experience.

Data Infra
The Data Infra team is responsible for building the data platform for Figma.  Our goal is to provide teams at Figma access to all the analytical data they require to build the features and gain the data insights they need to succeed. In practice, our responsibilities span a vast surface area ranging from streaming and batch ingestion from dozens of different sources into our data warehouse to building reverse ETL pipelines that feed analytical data into our product applications. Our key stakeholders include the Data Science org, the Engineering org (both Infra and Product teams), and the ML org, amongst many others.

We are looking for experienced engineers who would like to help craft the strategic vision for this team and build the foundations for enabling data-driven decision-making at Figma. Given the scope of our responsibilities, we are seeking individuals who are excited about working cross-collaboratively with our many stakeholders as well as defining the vision for what will likely be several teams in the coming years.

Deploys
The Deploys team is responsible for creating a platform that allows Figma developers to control how and when new code will be released to services in all our different environments. Our goal is to make this platform easy to use and customizable to the needs of different services. Deploys is well positioned to have a big impact on both the reliability of Figma and the velocity of engineers working at Figma. We build and support a number of tools to make it easy to ensure bugs don’t make it to production and are able to be quickly reverted if they do. This includes things like enforcing changes go to a staging environment before a production environment, the ability to run automated tests across a variety of environments, and the ability to canary a percentage of real user traffic. All of these directly impact the reliability of Figma and ensure the best experience possible for users.

We’re looking for engineers who are passionate about building a platform used every day by the other engineers you work with. You're someone who is excited to talk to your users, bounce ideas off them, and get immediate feedback on how a feature works. Likely you’re someone who has used previous deploy systems and frequently thought, I would like to see my deploy system do x or not do y. We’re a team of very thoughtful engineers who like to spend time together at the whiteboard thinking about the right way to build systems to be reliable and maintainable.

What you’ll do at Figma:

  • Design, build and operate scalable data systems and services that power Figma’s innovative tools for design and collaboration.
  • Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
  • Work with engineers across the company to build innovative new features that operate at scale.
  • Help debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Have 4+ years of experience building infrastructure components / services at scale.
  • Experience building and scaling distributed systems as an individual contributor and/or Team Lead
  • Proven track record of building, scaling, and shipping high-quality products in high growth environments.
  • Experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions.

While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:

  • Have excellent problem solving skills. You use a systematic and thorough approach. You think from first principles and have a bias for action. Are driven by impact. You are willing to work on grungy problems if they have a high impact on the business or the health of the infrastructure.
  • Care deeply about the quality of the software / systems you build. You have an artisan mentality and are always looking to improve your craft. At the same time you are able to strike the right balance between idealism and pragmatism.
  • Have excellent technical communication skills.
  • Finally, Figma is a close-knit company with a strong culture that promotes inclusivity and collaboration, taking ambitious goals and having fun doing so. You deeply value these traits and see yourself actively contributing to it.

At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
