The Opportunity:

Factorial Energy is looking for a Senior Cell Design Engineer to join its Product development team in Woburn, Massachusetts.  This candidate must be able to work in Korea for the first 9-12 months (Not recurring).  The successful candidate will engage in Lithium rechargeable battery design-oriented tasks and will focus on the optimization of overall battery performance by controlling multiple aspects of the battery. This position requires a thorough understanding of how the battery works, how they are assembled and how the energy density can be affected by various parameters etc. Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for design verification for jelly-roll and stacking to design verification for Cell Spec, & formation process condition
  • Review and feedback on the designed cell parameters to fine-tune them up to the customer’s requirements.
  • Engage in cell failure root cause analysis if required.
  • Interface and work closely not only with the rest of cell design team but also with internal R&D team, process team and production team (in Korea) to solve/mitigate the problems from the cell level.
  • Engage in responding to the customer requests by coordinating with the project managers.
  • Maintain compliance with all company protocols related to confidentiality, assignment of inventions, and other policies or duties as identified and assigned.

We are looking for people who:

  • Master or PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
  • More than 5 years of industrial experience with cell design, including testing, data, and failure mechanism analysis.
  • Experience with the full cycle from automotive A-sample to SOP is required
  • Electrochemical, Mechanical knowledge and Statistic analysis skill
  • Experience with pouch cell or prismatic cell is required
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Knowledge of programming (i.e. Python) is a plus
  • Statistic analysis and Machine learning related skills are preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and able to come up with creative solutions to challenges.
  • Willingness to execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced start-up environment.
