Job Description:
Factorial Energy is looking for a Senior/Staff Polymer Scientist to join its R&D team in Woburn, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will take laboratory-oriented tasks and will focus on polymer chemistry for lithium metal batteries and electrolyte formulation development. This position requires an understanding of polymer science, lithium batteries, lithium metal anode. Candidates must have academic or industrial experience with polymer synthesis or development for batteries. The role will entail independent design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and collaboration with Factorial Energy’s R&D. Applicants should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills. Seniority depends on candidates’ background and experience.
Responsibilities:

Design novel polymers as electrolyte components

Design, develop and validate strategies to optimize electrolyte composition for enhanced battery performance.

Analysis and characterization of electrolyte formulation and develop understanding of relationship between the polymer structure/property and battery performance.

Provide scientific support to project teams to resolve both practical and fundamental issues.

Maintain compliance with all company protocols related to confidentiality, assignment of inventions, and other policies or duties as identified and assigned.
Qualifications

PhD degree in Polymer, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related fields. (required)

Solid understanding in polymer physics and polymer chemistry.

More than 3 years’ experience with lithium metal batteries-related polymer chemistry including solid polymer electrolyte, gel polymer electrolyte, polymer coating on Li metal or separator.

Expertise and hand on experience in polymer synthesis and characterization.

Plus for candidates with testing and evaluating experience of pouch cells with Li metal anode.

Willingness to execute on multiple tasks in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Ability to work within project teams with dedication and technical excellence.

Must have experience with battery electrolyte related polymer projects.
