Senior Software Engineer - Product

Facet is a browser-based application for professional creatives with an entirely new mental model for working with image content. As a product engineer, using your 5+ years of professional experience,  you would be responsible for crafting and refining this unique experience. 

Our product engineers work closely with designers and power users to create novel interactions that bridge the gap between supportive AI and human creativity. Using Typescript, React, and WebGL, you will build beautiful and intuitive interfaces and components that empower our users and make their jobs more delightful. Core challenges include:

• Frontend architecture: Facet is a complex web app that is constantly evolving as we forge a path into the uncharted territory of AI-assisted creative interactivity. This requires a highly flexible frontend architecture that empowers our team to explore new techniques through customization and experimentation.

• State management: Every user interaction yields changes to local app state, networked state, and related state in connected systems such as the WebGL renderer or the application backend. This requires deep thought about how information is organized and transported throughout the app.

• Multiplayer collaboration: The browser-based nature of Facet provides an opportunity to distribute editing sessions to any number of connected users. This necessitates the employment of techniques in our frontend such as WebSockets and conflict-free replicated data types.

This role offers the unique opportunity to navigate the challenge of uniting professional artists and ML algorithms into the same creative loop. If you’re as interested in that as we are, we hope we’ll be hearing from you.

Requirements

• Experience crafting responsive, accessible and pixel-perfect user interfaces.

• Experience building complex web apps with difficult state management challenges.

• Strong visual sense and ability to work either from detailed mockups or rough guidelines.

• Empathy for the designers, artists, and the visual creative workers who will be using our product.

Responsibilities

• Build core product features and workflows using frontend tech like TypeScript, React, Redux, Next.js and WebGL.

• Craft polished, accessible, and delightful user experiences.

• Create new user interaction workflows that empower human designers to work collaboratively with AI.

• Work with design and product teams to craft a beautifully polished UI component library.
