We're looking for a Senior UX Writer

The Senior UX Writer will be the champion who proves that good design and good copy are joined at the hip. You’ll work closely with top-notch designers and researchers to envision the complete user journey and ensure that our every user flow is a thing of simple, elegant beauty. You’ll be rewarded for your excellent instincts, and respected for your ability to back up your hunches with hard data. And you won’t just be “hands on keys”—you’ll also be sharing what you know, building, developing, and leading a team of writers to do what you do so well.


  • Use your mastery of the written word to optimize the user experience across all touch points—website navigation, sales landing pages, app UIs and flows, error messages, customer support tutorials, account management screens, and billing and marketing emails
  • Distill complex systems into clear, concise, and compelling interface copy at every stage of the customer journey
  • Work across teams and with senior leadership to understand what’s possible, and then expand beyond that
  • Apply and flesh out our branding, style, and tone of voice
  • Craft unbiased user testing scripts
  • Advise on ideal UX for internal tools, such as our content management system
  • Train and mentor current and newly hired content strategists in best practices for UX writing, including documentation and guidelines
  • Lead our UX writing function and eventually build and manage a team of UX writers

Success metrics

UX is a holistic, team effort involving designers and researchers as well as writers and editors. As such, you’ll be judged by how your writing contributes to:

  • Conversion rates of sales funnels (landing pages, marketing emails, sign-up flows during free trials—including those offered through external business partners)
  • Customer retention rates at key points in the customer lifecycle (billing notifications, subscription renewals, setup and troubleshooting, cancellation attempts)
  • Rates of desired user behavior in website and app navigation (as shown by heatmaps and click-throughs)
  • Consistency of UX copy across all channels
  • Ease of use by our end-users, as measured by satisfaction surveys, customer support upvotes, and similar factors

Role requirements

  • Experience specifically in the area of UX writing (including for the web or apps), with a portfolio of successful projects with data on their outcomes
  • Exceptional English skills
  • Knowledge of user and AB testing best practices
  • A strong desire to lead and bring out the best in others, through coaching, mentoring, and teaching

Nice to have, but not required

  • Track record of non-UX digital writing experience
  • Formal management experience, including regular performance reviews
  • Familiarity with Sketch, Abstract, Tableau, and online user testing tools like UsabilityHub, UserTesting.com, and Lookback
  • Experience with translation workflows
