About the Role:

As our Chief Financial Officer, you will be a key partner to the CEO in developing, monitoring, governing and evaluating the overall corporate strategy, planning & analysis with a focus on bottom line financial performance, while enhancing investor value. Governing financial reporting, accounting, treasury and budgeting will be a primary focus. The role includes a heavy focus on corporate finance, investor relations, strategic initiatives including analytics, predictive modeling during a period of rapid growth and expansion.

This candidate will possess vast 4-wall start-up and management experience to evolve the finance and accounting structure (collaboration, people, technology and processes) to help us scale the organization and reach our long-term strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with CEO and executive team to develop strategic growth initiatives and oversee the development of expansion plans
  • Provide data-driven insight to critical business matters to drive profitable growth, leading long term planning processes, and Company-wide updates of KPI's, etc.
  • Provide effective leadership to the finance organization, ensuring the development of the required financial capabilities for the Company, and the development of talent within the organization
  • Define the financial strategy and provide useful financial insights to help make the best decisions about executing our business strategy
  • Ensure the Finance  function is properly resourced and organized, and develop an inclusive business partnership mindset across the organization

Investor Relations:

  • Responsible for financial aspects of fundraising activities, with relevant experiences in equity, debt and convertible financing
  • Create board materials, fundraising materials and other key financial reporting to advise investors and key stakeholders on overall company progress and financial health
  • Play a leading role in negotiating with banks and lenders during fundraising stages and manage lender relationships
  • Act as a liaison and forge relationships between the Company and the BOD, potential Investors, Banks etc.

Reporting:

  • Responsible for all monthly/qtrly/annual financial reporting on both cash and GAAP basis
  • Provide business reporting, including monthly forecasting vs. actual cycle and reconciliation of variances
  • Quarterly and year-end closing and reporting (for BOD and Investors)
  • Annual budget and planning process, and 3-5Y forward planning

Operational Finance:

  • Lead internal and 3rd-party resources across accounting, treasury/cash management, tax, FP&A, investor relations, and financial reporting 
  • Oversee working capital, investment of funds, and work with internal and external resources to raise additional capital as required
  • Draw on strong operational and inventory management finance skills to advise and add value
  • Provide overall leadership to the management reporting, financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes
  • Lead efforts to drive the analytical rigor of the finance team so that business decisions throughout the organization are informed by analytical insight while improving the organization's ability to leverage and manage data
  • Partner with executive leadership to build, validate, support the real estate process with center proforma review and overall market/retail fleet evaluation
  • Collaborate with counsel on all corporate finance matters including equity management
  • Establish and maintain stable cash flow management policies and procedures, and ensure cash resources are available for daily operations
  • Set up and/or oversee all financial and operational controls and metrics within the organization
  • Create flexible valuation models used to support M&A activities inclusive of standard financial metrics, including NPV, IRR, ROI, and payback periods

Compliance, Controls, & Enterprise Risk Management:

  • Ensure the fiscal integrity of the business through enhancement and management of accounting systems and controls
  • Prepare and file federal, state, third-party and other financial reports to ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC, IRS and other taxing entity requirements
  • Manage outside advisors such as auditors and tax advisors to assure compliance with federal and state law; as well as compliance with banking agreements
  • Oversee ERM process improvement company-wide

Experience needed for success:

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, MBA preferred, active CPA required.
  • Previous high growth startup, 4-wall experience
  • Understand how to manage deferred revenue in a growth environment
  • E-commerce, inventory, and supply chain experience
  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP, PCAOB, cash accounting, enterprise risk management, internal controls and compliance, and financial reporting
  • Strategic oversight with an emphasis on financial reporting analysis and cash flow management
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, develop, team members while holding them accountable for delivering results
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change, maintain relationships with emotional maturity and self-motivation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage simultaneous priorities with agility as business needs evolve
  • High financial modeling proficiency with Excel
  • Deep experience with NetSuite and business intelligence platforms
  • Ability to thrive and effectively prioritize in a remote work setting 
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time and maintain a traditional schedule in EST.
