Machine Learning Engineer- South Africa Remote First

The remit as an Equal Experts consultant/ employee includes all of the platform capabilities for training, deploying, evaluating and tuning ML models and features, including associated data pipelines.About the workOn an Equal Experts project, you’ll use your proven expertise to:
- Execution: Working effectively in an agile environment to deliver machine learning increments and ensure that requirements are met. Ensuring timely delivery across supporting/dependant teams in support of agreed goals.
- Evangelising: Driving adoption of best practices and standards, influencing across the client - most likely working with a wider team of Data Scientists , Delivery Leads, Product Owners, Quality Engineers and Data Engineers
- Bonus points if you have experience of leading the development of an internally-focused product, ideally with Developers or Data Scientists.
What we need from youYour significant technical skills and experience will include:
- Passion for data and ML engineering, and familiarity with ML algorithms.
- Some knowledge of the pitfalls and best practices in building, deploying and operating production ML workloads, inc. training, prediction/generation and feature engineering. Experience in teams delivering production ML use-cases.
- Vision for what great ML platform capabilities look like. Bonus points if you've been involved in ML platform development before.
- Familiarity with software architecture in a cloud environment -ideally including data lakes, ML platforms, feature stores and microservice architecture.
- Familiarity with test automation, continuous delivery and continuous integration, including the additional challenges of guaranteeing quality in data pipelines.
- Ability to engage and contribute (not lead) in technical discussions with engineers and stakeholders.
- Experience working with a programming language such as Java, Python, SQL, Golang is ideal
- Experience in client-facing roles is ideal
- Experience with Pair Programming, TDD, CI/CD is ideal
- Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and with a DevOps/Operability mindset ideal (Cloud composer/ airflow, Kubernetes)
