ESA seeks a Restoration Project Manager (Biologist) with 10+ years of relevant experience to oversee projects that are focused on compensatory mitigation and/or habitat restoration for sensitive natural communities and protected species.

Who You Are

You are an effective team member who proactively identifies and contributes constructively to address project challenges. As a Restoration Project Manager you have demonstrated experience in successfully executing projects within scope, budget, and schedule. You are driven by delivering projects that benefit ecosystems and communities and demonstrate a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. You work well independently and under the direction of a project director and are experienced in successfully delivering projects with competing deadlines.

The majority of the projects you will manage will involve identifying, developing, and implementing mitigation solutions for projects in California. These mitigation solutions may have included one or more of: permittee-responsible mitigation solutions, turn-key solutions, mitigation/conservation banks, habitat conservation plans/natural community conservation plans, or in-lieu fee programs.  You are known for preparing documents that are clear, concise, well-written and supported, and for your ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders. You have experience with similar compensatory mitigation solutions and regulatory agency consultations for impacts to sensitive natural communities and protected species. You have a solid foundational knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and regulatory agency permitting processes in California. This includes experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and NOAA Fisheries; California Department of Fish and Wildlife; and Regional Water Quality Control Boards. Experience in conservation planning, environmental science, regulatory permitting, restoration, wildlife biology, botany, or aquatic sciences is desirable to supplement technical mitigation knowledge.

At minimum, you hold a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in environmental science, ecology, natural resources, biology, or a related interdisciplinary field.

What You Will Do for ESA

As a Restoration Project Manager, you will oversee an expert team in identifying lands for conservation and restoration; working with landowners to implement mitigation projects on their property(s); developing mitigation documents; and coordinating regulatory approvals. This work will involve working closely with biologists, wetland scientists, engineers, hydrologists, planners, GIS professionals, and others. You may serve as lead author or analyst in developing Habitat Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, market analyses, crediting proposals, mitigation bank entitlement documents, endowment cost estimates, Mitigation Credit Agreements, or other mitigation proposals or supporting documents.

You will thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and highly rewarding environment by managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines, while working on a team or independently. You will serve as the lead projects of moderate complexity, delegating assignments and mentoring less experienced associates. Working under the direction of a Senior Principal Ecologist on more complex projects, you will be responsible for coordinating across disciplines. You will use your strong writing skills and technical knowledge to prepare documents that are clear, concise, and well supported. You may also support field data collection and resource surveys.

In all of your work, you will: demonstrate and perpetuate values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in your interactions with other ESA employee-owners, clients, teaming partners, and vendors/contractors; treat others with respect, empathy, and dignity; continuously seek opportunities to increase personal awareness and deepen understanding and growth related to systemic inequities and the impact of biases and micro-aggressions in the work place; and commit to speaking up and/or addressing inappropriate or exclusionary behaviors.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
