Principal Scientist - Medicinal Chemistry

About Us: Entact Bio is a preclinical stage biotechnology company developing a new class of drugs that enhance the function of beneficial proteins. Launched by a founding team deeply rooted in deubiquitinase (DUB) biochemistry, chemical biology, disease biology, and small-molecule drug development, Entact has designed its proprietary Encompass™ platform to create enhancement-targeting chimeric (ENTAC™) medicines. ENTACs harness the ability of DUBs to regulate proteins. By leveraging this natural cellular mechanism to enhance protein function, Entact is expanding the universe of treatable diseases.

We are seeking a medicinal chemist to join the Molecular Discovery group. The successful candidate will be accomplished in the field of organic synthesis with a strong background and experience in a wide range of modern synthetic chemistries. They will have a demonstrated ability to design new synthetic, drug-like molecules independently and in a hypothesis-driven manner. The successful chemist will help develop the molecular basis for our Encompass™ platform while interfacing with a team of scientists in mechanistic biology, biophysics and biochemistry, structural biology, computational, and translational sciences to bring forward new therapies.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the field of medicinal chemistry to design and evaluate small molecule, heterobifunctional compounds
  • Contribute to and lead programs by executing compound optimization strategies to drive critical path drug discovery goals
  • Interact with external contract research organizations (CROs) to ensure synthetic and data needs are fulfilled
  • Design efficient routes to target molecules of a wide range of complexity
  • Use a variety of tools, including structure-based drug design (SBDD), to develop structure-activity relationships (SAR) for enhancing protein function
  • Collaborate and effectively work cross functionally
  • Interpret SAR and prioritize compounds for in vitro and in vivo biological and DMPK assessment
  • Prepare technical documents in support of patent applications and scientific manuscripts
  • Effectively communicate scientific progress to internal project teams and external audiences
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and scientific curiosity

Who You Are:

  • Medicinal chemist with proven track record delivering high quality, drug-like molecules as part of a multidisciplinary project team
  • Strong communicator
  • Organized with effective time management and planning skills
  • Highly collaborative
  • Driven and Conscientious: Proactively identifies opportunities to contribute scientifically and organizationally to promote a culture of innovation and inclusion
  • Experienced in working with and managing chemistry CRO teams

Qualifications:

  • MS, or PhD, or equivalent industry experience in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry with 5+ years post academia experience
  • Knowledge in heterobifunctional and UPS biology and chemistry a plus

Entact is home to scientists, entrepreneurs, drug creators, and problem solvers, all inspired by the idea that even when you’re ill there’s something intact within your cells that can help you get well. As a member of this diverse and growing team, you will lend your insights, passion, and talent to the mission of translating this vision into novel therapeutics for the patients who need them the most.
