Engineers Gate (EG) is a leading quantitative investment company focused on computer-driven trading in global financial markets.  We are a team of researchers, engineers, and financial industry professionals using sophisticated statistical models to analyze data and identify predictive signals to generate superior investment returns. EG’s investment teams each focus on their independent strategies while utilizing the firm’s proprietary, state-of-the-art technology and data platform to optimize their alpha research.  

We are seeking a highly motivated Risk Intern to join our Risk Management team.  This is an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to our risk management system and framework while gaining exposure to other areas of the Firm, including data, research, and operations. You should be a self-starter with strong quantitative and programming skills and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. What You’ll Learn: 

  • Leveraging Advanced Risk Models: Gain hands-on experience in risk models from industry leaders such as Barra and Axioma and how they are used to assess and manage portfolio risk.  
  • Sophisticated Portfolio Construction: Learn and assist in constructing portfolios using robust optimization tools to balance portfolio risk and return objectives. 
  • Using Alternative Data: Work with extensive, high-value alternative data sourced from third-party vendors and understand its role in portfolio management. 
  • Continuous Learning: Receive ongoing feedback and guidance from experienced professionals on risk management strategies and software engineering best practices. 
  • Linux-centric Cloud Environment Operations: Gain a strong understanding of risk management within the context of a large, Linux-centric, multi-tenant public cloud environment.  
  • Exploring Diverse Databases: Engage with a variety of databases, including relational, columnar, and NoSQL systems and how they are used to inform investment decisions. 
  • Engaging with Storage Technologies: Learn about various storage technologies, such as object storage, file share systems, and cloud-based platforms to understand their role in managing and accessing data resources. 

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a top-tier Financial Engineering graduate program. 
  • Strong understanding of mathematical and statistical principles. 
  • Proficient in programming with a keen interest in developing and maintaining a robust Python package. 
  • A commitment to writing clean code. 
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to drive projects to completion independently.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other team members when needed. 

The base pay for this role is anticipated to be between $750 and $1,250 per week. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s skills, qualifications, education, and experience. This position can be in-office, hybrid, or remote.
