As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll work closely with your team’s Product Owner, UX Designers, and Scrum Master to ensure successful planning and execution of projects and help advise the Site Experience team on development and platform decisions. You will also develop the people on your teams to help them achieve their career goals while also fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and accountability.

What you’ll do:

Product Delivery

  • Transform requirements for an initiative into deliverables (e.g. MVP, follow-on releases)
  • Help team members break down deliverables into stories that can be accurately estimated
  • Provide guidance via Agile/Scrum practices to keep teams on track to meet deadlines
  • Remove impediments to keep teams from being blocked, e.g. cross-team dependencies
  • Provide guidance to team members to work efficiently when their velocity is inconsistent
  • Understand the functional areas of a team, as well as technical skills of team members, to structure the teams to operate efficiently
  • Help team members seize the opportunity to build reusable components and infrastructure, as well as transform technologies to stay current
  • Utilize external resources when needed to meet deadlines
  • Meet with other development managers and Product Owners to understand other areas of the Product Delivery organization, the impact of your team's work on other teams, how you can help other teams, etc...
  • Drive leadership programs across Product Delivery including hosting all-hands meetings, organizing/managing technical training, participating in our Software Engineer Development Program, Innojam, etc.

Employee Development

  • Meet with team members regularly to discuss tasks, understand challenges, stay current with the latest technology
  • Coach team members to improve skills and advance to new engineering levels
  • Manage employee issues, merit increases, promotions, budgets
  • Participate in hiring including creating job descriptions and requisitions, interviewing candidates, making offers, onboarding new hires
  • Encourage team members to take turns performing scrum master duties

Who you are:

  • 8+ years of industry experience with 3+ years in a managerial role
  • Experience working autonomously to drive execution and delivery of core functionality for web products
  • Proven track record leading successful frontend and backend software development teams
  • Experience with Agile methodologies including Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience and understanding of A/B testing platforms and their complexities
  • Familiarity with a broad mix of technologies including React, dotCMS, Contentful, Gatsby, Jamstack, GraphQL, RESTful APIs, Javascript, Java, Jest, Automated Testing, AWS, CI/CD, Cloudflare
  • SaaS experience and a track record of design and implementation for scaling large system
  • S. / M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
