POSITION CAN SIT REMOTELY IN THE US - STRONG PREFERENCE FOR A CANDIDATE TO SIT IN THE NYC METROPOLITAN AREA (NJ, NY, CT), ATLANTA OR CHICAGO. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this role is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for the performance of Embroker’s commercial insurance operations. Importantly, the Head of Insurance will be a dynamic thinker, have excellent communication skills, a roll-up your sleeves mentality and be a servant leader. The  successful candidate will embrace and advocate for the use of technology and innovation to revolutionize traditional insurance approaches and establish Embroker as a leader in the future of insurance.  This role will be an instrumental leader in the next phase of Embroker’s growth from its position as the leading specialty commercial InsurTech and will provide directional leadership over insurance product, underwriting, claims and reinsurance.

Job Duties

  • Profit and Loss (P&L) ownership for the insurance operations and all industry verticals, including ultimate target loss ratios (TLRs). 
  • Develop insurance product strategies to drive long term underwriting performance through the application of advanced data and analytics capabilities.
  • Ownership of reinsurance strategy and placements and management of key reinsurance relationships.
  • Strategic leadership and career development of product development, underwriting, claims and other operational functions.
  • Manage the roadmap and execution of our insurance product development (new features, vertical industry targets, bespoke insurance coverages, etc.).
  • Maximize best-in-class internal claims function and provide strategic oversight of a fully functioning in-house claims department.
  • Own operational execution of insurance function level including claims handling, compliance, and capacity and limits.
  • Serve as functional head of Embroker’s general agency and captive insurance carrier.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of insurance industry and proven leadership experience. Accomplished and respected commercial P&C insurance veteran (preferably within specialty). 
  • P&C license, including surplus lines, preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and leading profitable underwriting organizations. Strong expertise across a variety of functional areas including: reinsurance, claims and operations.
  • Track-Record of Growth and building out a function including hiring, mentoring, coaching and retaining a high-performing team.
  • Insurance product development with demonstrable history of building admitted and non-admitted products and strong command of the insurance product development and regulatory approval process. Passion for technology.
  • Inspiring leader and excellent communicator who can work comfortably at all levels of the enterprise, pick-up the phone and communicate to various stakeholders without hesitation, and naturally gain the hearts and minds of the enterprise.
