What you’ll do
We are seeking a highly analytical and hands-on Experimentalist / Data Scientist with deep expertise in Design of Experiments (DOE) to lead experimental efforts in compaction and magnetics research. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of physical experimentation and data-driven insights, and who can translate complex material behaviors into actionable engineering knowledge.
- Design and execute experiments focused on powder compaction, magnetic field interactions, and related material phenomena.
- Apply DOE methodologies to optimize experimental setups and extract meaningful insights.
- Develop and maintain experimental protocols, ensuring reproducibility and statistical rigor.
- Analyze large datasets using statistical and machine learning tools to uncover trends, correlations, and performance drivers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate hypotheses and refine experimental designs.
- Build predictive models to support material behavior forecasting and process optimization.
- Document findings in technical reports and present results to internal stakeholders and external collaborators.
What we’re looking for
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Statistics, or related fields.
- Proven experience with DOE techniques and statistical modeling in a laboratory or industrial setting.
- Strong background in materials characterization, especially in compaction mechanics and magnetic properties.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or JMP.
- Familiarity with instrumentation for compaction (e.g., press systems) and magnetics (e.g., VSM, HGR).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for experimental rigor.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with machine learning for experimental data interpretation.
- Knowledge of powder metallurgy or sintering processes.
- Familiarity with finite element modeling or simulation tools.

- Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on education, experience and skills
