As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and owning features and services end-to-end. You will report to an Engineering Team Lead and contribute to a hybrid work model, spending three days a week onsite at our New York City headquarters and two days remotely. Relocation support is available for those joining us from outside New York City.

You'll Get To…

  • Write server-side code, build high-volume production applications, and rapidly develop prototypes.
  • Lead the development of new features and construct backend services using Java.
  • Collaborate with fellow engineers and designers to create intuitive, customer-focused experiences.
  • Ensure the reliability of systems critical to Squarespace users and businesses powered by our platform.
  • Practice disciplined software engineering, including automated testing, comprehensive code reviews, and writing beautiful, readable code.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, contributing to their professional growth and the team's overall success.

Who We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of development experience with Java, Python, Go, or another object-oriented language, coupled with experience developing large-scale software.
  • A solid foundation in computer science, including proficiency in data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • A strong commitment to creating readable code and a deep understanding of database schema design, caching, and scalability.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience

Cash Compensation Range: $128,500 - $231,500 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
